Dropping Kei Kamara is Bad News for Leone Stars!

The wise always say the voice of the people is the voice of God. Indications have however shown that certain elements within the Sierra Leone Football Association SLFA have conspicuously ignored the road to wisdom, as far as football is concern.

Innumerable times, SLFA, the football organising body in Sierra Leone, has continued to make mistakes upon mistakes especially during very crucial times like now as the national football team, the Leone Stars is warming up for Bafana Bafana of South Africa this weekend.

The Awareness Times cannot believe why the nations star player maker Kei Ansu Kamara was dropped from the Leone Stars squad at the eleventh hour. It is obviously good news for the South Africans as our national team is never complete without the exploits of Kei Kamara. We believe, whatever the reason or reasons for SLFAs drastic action against Kei Kamara, this is definitely not the right time to drop him. We need every one of our talented footballers on deck if we are really serious to overcome Bafana Bafana this Saturday. Punishment can be meted out to a wrong doer any time but it is sensible to do it the right time!

The SLFA PRO Ibrahim Sorie Sesay cleverly dodged the question as to the reason or reasons why Kei Kamara was axed. But we know from sources close to SLFA that Kei was dropped for disciplinary reasons. What a good reason for such an action! And what a good decision that was implemented at the wrong time!

What SLFA did is commendable, but it makes football fans to wonder what kind of discipline SLFA is talking about. Most people feel many SLFA officials are not disciplined. Disciplined officials would never go against orders made by their bosses. Looking at the SLFA, Sports Ministry never-ending tug-of-war, we wonder what disciplinary lessons SLFA is expecting others to follow.

We are talking here about a very crucial away match in South Africa on Saturday that would determine whether our Leone Stars will qualify for the African Nations Cup finale in Gabon/Equatorial Guinea next year. We really cannot understand why a player like Kei Kamaras status, whose contributions to Leone Stars have been so beneficial in recent times, could face the axe.

This newspaper understands that the Swedish born Head Coach Olf Mattson is very angry with SLFA for axing the USA based football star Kei Kamara. And there are reports that Coach Olof Mattson is demanding the presence of Kei Kamara in South Africa without delay.

SLFA is behaving exactly like the English media. The crazy media frenzy in the UK is always exposing their football players when ever a major tournament is round the corner. The UK press has consistently exposed the Three Lions main stars like Wayne Rooney, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand etc. at the wrong time. We all know how England performed in the last two World Cup finals.  Zero! Zero!!

We do think SLFA wants Leone Stars to end like England. We Know, one man cannot play football but one player can make a difference! We are certain that the other outstanding players in Leone Stars would like to see Kei back in the squad. SLFA, it is never shameful to reverse ones bad decision. Only God doesnt change and fools of course!

That is why, on behalf of the thousands of Leone Stars fans, we are appealing to SLFA, Sports Ministry and other important stakeholders to do what Coach Olof Mattson wants. Whatever the case, we still wish Leone Stars all the best in South Africa.
