SLPP

ONE COUNTRY, ONE PEOPLE

PRESS STATEMENT:- The Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) wishes to inform its wider membership and the general public that on Monday 10th October 2011, twelve members of the Party including a sitting SLPP Member of Parliament Hon. Foday Rado Yokie were arraigned in Magistrate Court No.2 presided over by Magistrate J.O.Wellington on a three count charge of arson.

All accused persons were denied bail and remanded in custody. The matter stands adjourned to Thursday 13th October instant. The Legal Advisers of the Party are fully seized of the matter and will do everything possible to ensure that justice is done.

We are however, perturbed that the three police officers responsible for the indiscriminate firing that led to the death of a bike rider and the wounding of several people are accessible and are still carrying on with their normal duties.

We are also very much concerned that Mohamed Conteh alias Bomblast who was cited in the report as being responsible for the wounding of our Partys Flagbearer and who incidentally had been arrested and arraigned in Bo on another matter was never brought to Court.

Our Partys historical respect for the tenets of democracy, the rule of law and the maintenance of law and order should in the circumstances not be taken for granted.

Meanwhile, the National Executive of the Party and the Partys flagbearer wish to appeal to all Party members to remain calm and law abiding. The Partys leadership will continue to keep you fully informed of unfolding events and decisions in this regard.
