Nicol Wilson
One of Africas top Human Rights Lawyers, Melron Nicol Wilson, has confirmed to Awareness Times that he is currently working with the families of the victims of the 29 Sierra Leoneans killed by the NPRC military regime; to ensure a Coroners Inquest is swiftly conducted into the circumstances under which they lost their loved ones.

Melron Nicol Wilson is prepared to be by the family members until they reach the end of their search for answers even if it means having to resort to seeking justice in the international arena.

Nicol-Wilson who specialises in International Human Rights Law & Criminal Justice has bagged a number of international human rights awards including African Human Rights Lawyer for 2007. He is providing his services free to the families.

Meanwhile, the families will this morning of October 27th 2011, visit foreign embassies & the U.N. Mission in Sierra Leone. They also intend to storm the Attorney-Generals Office, the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, the Ombudsman, the Office of the President at State House, the Speaker of Parliament and the Chambers of the Chief Justice.

According to a Letter, co-signed on behalf of the families by TV Star Rachael Bangura and Julius Bambay Kamara, the intention of the whirlwind visits is to deliver letters specifically calling on these local and international bodies to impress upon President Ernest Koroma to immediately institute a Coroners Inquest into the deaths of their loved ones at the hands of drugs-crazed soldiers.

It is a fact that a Coroners Inquest, according to law established, is not a discretionary action but rather, it is mandatory on a Government when called upon by family members who lost loved ones in unexplained circumstances. The only time a Government can exercise discretion in unexplained deaths is when it comes to prosecutions; this is when the Government can take a discretionary decision not to prosecute killers.

The 29 victims were executed without any judicial process, on allegations of plotting to overthrow the then NPRC military junta ruling the country. Some of them like the father of Julius Bambay Kamara, were taken from behind prison bars and executed. Others, like the father of Rachael Bangura, were picked up whilst drinking Palm-wine at an entertainment spot near where her dear father used to operate his agricultural farm at Lumpa, Waterloo.

The most famous Inquest ever held in Sierra Leone was when the former APC regime of Siaka Stevens held an Inquest into the sudden death of the then Bank Governor, Sam Bangura.
