The families of twenty-nine victims who were executed, without judicial trial, by the National Provisional Ruling Council military junta on December 29, 1992 have received assurances from Commissioners Jamesina King & Yasmin Jusu-Sheriff of the Human Rights Commission as well as from British High Commission, the American Embassy, the United Nations Mission and from Sierra Leone Parliamentary Leaders that their Letter, calling for an Inquest into the deaths of their loved ones, will not be ignored. At each of the institutions where almost 100 relatives converged yesterday October 27th 2011, they were given strong assurances that their requests will be given due consideration within realistic requirements for justice.

The black-clad family members who loaded into four huge buses, were singing solemn funeral songs as they drove from point to point, to hand over petition letters to the various institutions. They want pressure to be put on the Government of Sierra Leone to facilitate an Inquest to know who, how, where, and why their relatives were taken away in cold blood. Presenting the petition letters, Rachel Bangura the daughter of one of the victims, said they were determined to fight until the last drop of our blood to see justice be given to their loved ones.

Receiving his letter, the Honourable Speaker of Parliament Justice Abel Stronge thanked the bereaved relatives for what he described as their peaceful means of channelling their demands. He called on them to continue to exercise patience while assuring them that he will redirect the petition to the right quarters and expressed the hope that good will come out of it.

On his part, the American Ambassador to Sierra Leone H.E. Michael Owen reportedly expressed amazement over what he was hearing for the first time from the representatives of the families. The representatives who spoke to him away from the eyes of journalists cameras, report that he has assured them that he will discuss it with the State Department in Washington D.C. following which he will get back to the families.

Similar assurances were also made by the United Nations Mission and the British High Commission. ERSG Michael Schulenburg is answering to a call in New York but the UNIPSIL Head of Political Affairs who doubles as Officer-in-Charge of the Mission, received the delegation. At the British High Commission, the Political Affairs Officer accompanied by other British diplomats, also formally received their own Letter on behalf of the High Commissioner Ian Hughes who was reported to be away from his desk.
