A Lebanese surety, Mr. Alie Ayoub, who stood for another Lebanese businessman Ezzat Basma, has been ordered by Magistrate Johanese Wellington of Court 11 in Freetown to report to court daily in accordance with the bail conditions.

Reports have confirmed that Mr. Ezzat Basma, 55, who was recently given one month jail sentence by Magistrate Wellington for assault and trespass charges, has disappeared in to thin air.  His where about is still unknown last night.

Mr. Ezzat Basma, who was granted bail after spending some time at the Pademba Road Prisons in Freetown, has reportedly jumped bail thereby violating his bail conditions.  It is confirmed that Mr. Basma has failed to appear in two consecutive court sittings, and as this is against his bail condition, a warrant of arrest was issued for him but he is yet to be found. Sources say the surety Mr. Ayoub has now been ordered to report daily in court as a result.

Mr. Ezzat Basma, on the run

One of Mr. Basmas defense lawyer Hannah Ahmed has confirmed that she has already filed a motion of appeal to the High Court against the judgement delivered my Magistrate Wellington against her client.

It could be recalled that the magistrate convicted the Lebanese businessman Ezzat Basma of No 17 Goderich Street on two count charges after he allegedly fought his girl friends father Alhaji Momodu Sowe at the Juba Hill residence of the latter on September 18, 2011.

When Mr Sowe, a top businessman, was contacted yesterday, he told the Awareness Times that during the assault, Mr. Basma stole his 25,000 US dollars.

He disclosed that his daughter Hawa, the centre of all this trouble, is having an affair with Mr. Basma and he confirmed that the family totally disapproves of this relationship.

But Mr. Basma is hell bent on marrying the girl, according to reports.

Gerald Soyei, the State Prosecutor, recently told the court, just before sentence was passed, that it is the usual habit for foreigners, especially the Lebanese not to respect citizens of this country.
