STANDARD CHARTERED WINS ĎMOST COMPLIANT LARGE TAX PAYERí AWARD

AT THE NATIONAL REVENUE AWARDS 2011

Freetown January 2012 - Standard Chartered Bank has won the National Revenue Authority Award for Most Compliant Large Tax Payer- organised by the National Revenue Authority (NRA).

The National Revenue Authority Award acknowledges the rapidly transforming tax landscape in Sierra Leone by honouring tax compliance excellence, and by creating local visibility for the best practices in business.

Standard Chartered was complimented by the awarder for outstanding leadership in the large tax payer category, citing exemplary compliance in the following areas; timely and accurate submission of returns and tax obligations, full disclosure and access to all records and information, proactive, professional, technical and sound engagement with the NRA on tax matters; coupled with the Bankís valued contribution to the national consolidated fund aimed at augmenting sustainable development in Sierra Leone. This award was announced at a dinner in Freetown, attended by more than 300 leaders from the government, (including the Minister of Finance) CEOís and Finance Directors from the business community.

On receiving the award, Idrissa Kamara, Standard Charteredís Executive Director of Finance & Admin, Sierra Leone remarked: ďThis award is a tremendous honour. As an international bank in Sierra Leone, regulatory compliance is a core pillar of our corporate governance structure and we play a key role in using our skills and experience to provide thought leadership, in helping to address some of the issues which adversely impact economic development. Our approach to sustainability focuses on responsibly managing our core banking practices and on enabling the economies in which we operate to flourish through financing renewable energy, partnering with microfinance institutions, investing in the community and the international standards of governance that we drive in our business.Ē

Standard Chartered continues to make a successful impact in being ĎHere for goodí in governance in Sierra Leone. The Bankís economic contribution to Sierra Leone has been the culmination of over 117 years of sustained and increasing investment in the country.

The Bank is ĎHere for goodí and remains strongly committed to applying the highest level of international governance and risk management to all banking activities in Sierra Leone.
