The project is for the rehabilitation of the Makeni-Kabala Highway, expansion of seven bridges on the Masiaka Highway, reconstruction of Rue de-la-paix (peace road from Leicester Peak connecting IMMAT, Berry Street and finally, the road along the Beach from Lumley to Aberdeen respectively.

He said Government infrastructural program stretches from roads to energy, adding that, his government is sourcing funds all over the world for such projects which are of economic importance.

Dr. Samura described the EU as a dependable partner and called on the contractors to commence work immediately. Dr Samura Kamara pointed out that, the roads would enhance regional integration, whilst further expressing hope that, the work should be completed by 2014.

The Head of EU Delegation expressed appreciation for the Rogbere/Conakry Highway that has been successfully completed through funds from EUs infrastructural programs.

Director of the National Authorizing Office, Mr. Ibrahim Sorieba Kanu explained that, phase one of the project will include the reconstruction/rehabilitation of localized failed sections with double surface treatment totaling 100km, improving existing drains and construction of new ones as well as the maintenance of culverts and roads related structures.

Furthermore, he said, the second phase will include the construction of sidewalks, vehicle parking rest areas and pedestrian barriers, traffic circles at inter-sections, spot improvements, and over-lay with 50mm asphalt concrete, among others, located in Freetown.
