Vice President Alhaji Samuel Sam Sumana on Thursday 12th July 2012, officially opened a Book of Condolence for the late mother of His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and family, Mrs. Alice Rosaline Koroma, at a civic laying-out ceremony held at the Miatta Conference Hall, Youyi Building in Freetown.

The ceremony was jam-packed with members of the diplomatic and consular corps, government ministers, parliamentarians, councilors, heads of departments and agencies, judiciary, security forces, friends and family members among others.

A tribute for the late Mrs. Koroma was given by her eldest daughter Florence. According to her, Mrs. Alice Rosaline Koroma was born on 27th June 1932 and was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. Ernest Numeh Sesay and Mammy May Conteh of Kamabai. She said her mother attended the Kamabai School and was an exemplary student in both academia  and sporting activities. The late woman she went on was married to the late Mr. Sylvanus Koroma on 1st August 1948, which union lasted for thirty-five years and was blessed with eight children.

According to Florence, the late woman was a teacher at the Sierra Leone Church School and was also a Seamstress. She said she can best remember the late woman as one who  had always been the strong foundation that held the Koroma family together in spirit, love strength and humility.

Mrs. Koroma has been a strong supporter and an advocate on womens equal participation in domestic activities and in national governance, she stressed. In the political field she said that the late woman was leader of the Womens Congress of the All Peoples Congress (APC) in Bombali District in the late sixties and played an active role in the Rogbaneh Wesleyan Church.

She furthered that the deceased was a woman of faith and believed in education for all children. She paid school fees for both her biological children and many other children in Makeni up to the time of her death.Dilating further on her past works, Florence said her mother was a source of strength, faith, guidance and support for the community adding that her  home was free for all as she accommodated everyone .

She said she has been a great and loving mother to her children, nieces and nephews, brothers, sisters, the Makeni community and the nation as a whole adding that Sierra Leone has lost a pillar of love, strength, hope and charity. She said Mrs. Alice Koroma has made a difference in everyones life that she has had the pleasure of meeting and knowing.

She stated that Sierra Leoneans believe that Mrs. Koromas greatest gift to them is not what she left for them as her children, community and country but what she has left in them.

Mrs. Alice Koroma has been blessed with a great life, which she has generously shared with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers and sisters, her community and nation.  She said It is clear that the Angels in heaven are currently celebrating her spirit and welcoming her home to eternal life.

She went further the late woman has taught everyone around her to solve problems by actively listening to each other, praying to communicate our need to the Lord and have faith that God is always in control and provided everyone with what they need.

Mrs. Alice Koroma we celebrate and thank God for your faith, guidance and generously. We will always have you in our hearts. May your soul rest in perfect peace.
