In Sierra Leone, Mrs. Alice Rosaline Koroma Laid to Rest

Members of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) party and those of the opposition parties were yesterday 15th July 2012, joined by foreign diplomats from around the world to bid farewell to the mother of His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma. The late mother, Mrs. Alice Rosaline Koroma was buried in Makeni City yesterday.


The funeral service which was held at the Wesleyan Church of Sierra Leone on Rogbaneh Road in Makeni City, attracted the First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Patience Goodluck Jonathan, Ex-President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, Government delegations from the sub-region, leaders and chairmen of the All Peoples Congress (APC), Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), United Democratic Movement (UDM), National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC), members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps amongst other distinguished personalities as well as a throng of ordinary citizens from all walks of life and from all corners of Sierra Leone and the sub-region.

Addressing family members, mourners and sympathizers at the funeral service, the National Superintendent for Wesleyan Churches of Sierra Leone, Rev. Dr. Usman J. Fornah stated that the late womans life was a model, adding that it was a life well spent.He further revealed that the late Madam Alice Koroma modelled her life according to the teachings of the scripture. He said she was very religious to an extent she formed a prayer group that met and prayed for Sierra Leone every day.


He prayed that the soul of the departed, rest in perfect peace.


The late Mrs. Alice Rosaline Koroma was born on 27th July 1932 in Kamabai, Biriwa Chiefdom to Pa Ernest and Mammy May Sesay. She was married to the late Chairman of Makeni City Council, Pa Sylvanus Koroma with whom she had eight children. She is survived by all her children, Florence, Admire, H.E. Dr. Ernest Bai, Ione, Thomas, Elizabeth, Philip, Sylvanus and many grand and great grand children at home and abroad.


The late Mrs. Alice Rosaline Koroma was a Teacher, Womens Leader for the Wesleyan Churches of Sierra Leone, a philanthropist who paid the school fees for many children. In the realm of politics, long before her son became President, she was Womens Leader of the ruling APC Womens League in Bombali District. She was known as an advocate of women. She will be missed by many to whom she was fondly known as Mother of the Nation or Mummy or Mama Alice.
