NOTIFICATION FOR PUBLIC DISCLOSURE ON THE ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT (ESIA) STUDY OF THE ZIRCON MINING PROJECT FOR WEST AFRICA ZIRCON MINING (SL) LTD.

IN THE PORT LOKO AND TONKOLILI DISTRICTS

 

This advertisement serves to notify interested and/or affected persons/parties of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) study conducted for West Africa Zircon Mining Ltd. For the Zircon Mining Project in Lungi, Kaffu-Bullom Chiefdom, Port Loko District and Pampana, Kolifa Rowala Chiefdom in the Tonkolili District, Northern Province of Sierra Leone.

 

West Africa Zircon (SL) Ltd is presently engaged in mining and processing of zircon ore in the aforementioned sites. In conformity with the Sierra Leone Environmental Protection Agency Act 2008 and the supplementary EPA Act 2010, West Africa Zircon (SL) Ltds project needs to be planned and implemented in a manner that minimizes  potential negative environmental and social impacts and accentuates positive impacts. This is expected to be achieved through the ESIA Process that CEMMATS Group Ltd was contracted to undertake. Reports will be made available to all concerned stakeholders.

 

The ESIA report to the Environmental Protection Agency-Sierra Leone (EPA-SL) will be presented to the affected and/or interested stakeholders during public disclosure sessions for discussion. CEMMATS Group Ltd and West Africa Zircon Mining (SL) Ltd propose to conduct the stakeholders engagement process at the following locations and dates at 9a.m


  
Magburaka Council Hall, Kolifa Rowala Chiefdom, Tonkolili District on Tuesday, 18th September 2012,

   Yamsamah Complex (JAY CEE HALL) Lungi, Kaffu-Bullom Chiefdom, Port Loko District on Wednesday, 19th September 2012, and

   Bishop Brosnaham Hall, Santano House, Howe Street, Freetown on Thursday 20th September 2012.

 

The study is reported is titled:

Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Study prepared for West Africa Zircon Mining Sierra Leone Ltd.

 

Stakeholders and/or interested persons/parties are invited to participate in the consultation process at the above mentioned locations. Your input and any issues or insights that you may have regarding the project will be valuable. Comments can be submitted verbally at the stakeholders workshop or in written format. We look forward to your participation in the consultation and disclosure process.
