APCís Economics Keeps Petrol & Rice Prices low inside Sierra Leone

I donít know Economics as Prof. Kelfala Kallon and his sidekicks like Sorie Fofana might do, but itís laughable¬† for them to go personal than address the point I raised that astronomical rises in prices of rice and petrol, with accompanying hardship, are happening not only inside our Sierra Leone but even in Ďfirst worldí nations of England and America. My points concern the fact that prices of Fuel & Rice have kept on rising all over the world in the last five years; in alarming manners.

However, since they want to gloss over it, let me highlight and applaud the Koroma led APC regime for economically astute decisions that ensured price of rice and fuel are kept low in Sierra Leone; much lower than many other places.

The APC policies include removal of duty from rice imports. They also include subsidising actual price of petrol as a Poverty-reducing action for our impoverished citizens. The latter is despite strong resistance from IMF. These are laudable policies.

Yet there are the Kelfala Kallons and those who refuse to acknowledge that these are the efforts responsible for why rice and petrol are cheaper in Sierra Leone than in London and America.

Can they deny that fuel & rice continue to escalate in global prices over the last 5 years? No, they cannot! They just want to criticise any and every thing. However, criticising just for the sake of being a critic is inane.

These SLPP folks speak of the higher salaries and higher purchasing power of citizens living in the West as an excuse for why Petrol and Rice are far more expensive in UK & USA. By the same token, if the answer was so simplistic, should everything else in America and England not be high-priced? However, they are unable to explain why commodities like computers and vehicles are cheaper in London and America than in Sierra Leone.

The truth is that Petrol and Rice are cheaper in Sierra Leone than most other places in the world because of astute policies implemented by APC-led Sierra Leone Government to cushion the global economic crisis which continues to skyrocket prices of rice and petrol all over the world.

Finally, SLPPís folks really have to cease their abusive ways ( CUSS-CUSS ). Cannot they address issues raised without abusing those who hold a contrary view? Kelfala Kallon & Sorie Fofana are frustrated but CUSS-CUSS is not the answer. Rather, let them try to convince as to how a return of an SLPP Government might do better if elected.

For now, we are grateful to APC for economic policies which even IMF applauds in an unprecedented manner.
