Police Nab 419ers in Kenema

Police in Kenema town have arrested close to eight people for duping over eight hundred million leones from various residents of the township, under the guise of giving micro-finance loan. Police sources say sometime in June this year, an organization called Life Above Poverty Cooperative Society, was established by a Nigerian national in Kenema on the pretext of providing micro-finance loan to people in the business sector. They went around collection huge sum of money for registration and at the end of the day, disappeared into thin air with the monies collected.

 

Matotoka-Kono Road Project Signed

A five man delegation from the Government of Kuwait has signed an agreement with the Government of Sierra Leone for the funding of the Matotoka-Kono Road Project. The signing ceremony took place at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development in Freetown. The signing ceremony for the 120 kilometer road was described as a laudable achievement, pointing out that President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma recently assured that he will stop at nothing to transform Sierra Leone.

 

Thinking Pink on Breast Cancer Fight

The Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation is set to observe this years Breast Cancer awareness month, which will commence in October on the theme Together we can fight Cancer. Breast cancer is caused when some of the human cells become abnormal and the Foundation is geared towards giving proper public sensitization on the disease.

 

Man Remanded for Fraud

A business man, Augustine Kamara, has been remanded at the Pademba Road Prisons in Freetown after making his first appearance before Magistrate Komba Kamanda of the Freetown Magistrate Court No.2. The accused was charged with Conspiracy and Obtaining Money by False Pretence contrary to Sections in the Larceny Act 1916.    

 

12 Billion Leones for SMEs

Twelve billion leones has been approved by the Government of Sierra Leone to provide cheap loans to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Sierra Leone. This was according to the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Richard Conteh, during his statement at the Grand Final and Awards Ceremony of the Third National Business Plan Competition Business Bomba recently in Freetown. The minister said the money will provide loan at 5% interest per annum.

 

Action-Aid Completes Agricultural Project

A Non-Governmental Organization, ActionAid Sierra Leone in collaboration with the United Nations Women (UN-Women), has officially handed over a grain store, drying floor and milling machine to the people of Makump-Bana community in the Bombali district. The gesture was part of the organizations contribution to the Agricultural Livelihood Project that was specifically designed to alleviate the suffering of women in that part of the country.

 

Man Arrested for Attempted Kidnapping

A middle age man, Aruna Kamara, residence in Aberdeen has been arrested by police for an alleged attempted kidnapping case. The accused is currently detained at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Sierra Leone Police, helping them in their investigations. He was allegedly caught along the Circular Road Cemetery whilst attempting to kidnap a young girl
