National Chairman and Leader of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) John Oponjo Benjamin (JOB) has bluffed that as long as he was leading the SLPP, the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) and their new member Hon. Robin Faley, would never win an election in Segbwema. He was speaking in an exclusive interview with Awareness Times on October 2nd 2012 shortly after a welcoming ceremony as he entered Kailahun Districts Segbwema town, with the partys presidential candidate Mr. Julius Maada Bio.

The duo were met by an overwhelming crowd of people which many have opined as unprecedented in the recent history of the area. A smiling John Benjamin seated later at his Segbwema house, was sarcastic as he retorted that despite the claims of Faley and APC that the area was now against the SLPP, even ghosts rose from their graves to go and dance to welcome the two men.

The crowd spilled from out of the Segbwema Court Barray into the compound. It was a massive crowd of people

JOB warned that the boasts of Robin Faley were the words of nothing but a wicked liar who was deceiving the entire nation.

During the welcome ceremony, dozens of supposed Robin Fallays supporters publicly took off red APC T-shirts and surrendered them to John Benjamin, Sama Banya and Maada Bio following which they put on green SLPP T-shirts. The youths were singing that they had only worn the red T-shirts in order to eat APCs money and to enjoy meat from a cow which was slaughtered to feed them last week Thursday when Robin Faley made his declaration that he was crossing over from SLPP to APC.

The alleged supporters of SLPP who faked the APC for money and cow. Hon. Faley has however disowned them as not having been inside his own crowd

According to Benjamin, he was the one who told the youths to enjoy the money and the cow which Robin was dishing out on behalf of the APC. Mr. Benjamin claimed that Faley will never be a match for him inside Segbwema. He said it was him who introduced Robin Faley to what he is now enjoying in politics, adding that it was also him who took Robin to Kailahun and personally introduced him to the people of that district when Faley came home from London.

This according to JOB, was for him to make Robin feel belonging to the township after he had lost his elder brother the late Captain Wallace Faley in the civil war.

The people of Kailahun and Segbwema respected Robin because of me and that of their love for the SLPP JOB claimed, adding; his latest deceptive act against me and the SLPP has surely made him a caricature amidst his people.

JOB expressed confidence that the candidate put forward by the SLPP to contest against Robin Faley in Constituency 07, will beat Faley hands down in the November polls, adding that Robins popularity in that Constituency was as a result of the SLPP and nothing else.

He said Robins political career has ended and that he has disgraced his people, for which he will get the reward very soon in the ballot box.

Mr. Benjamin also used the forum to debunk allegations made by Robin Fallay that the SLPP neglected him whilst he was in conflict with the law in Kenema State Prison cells. He said Robin was defended by SLPP Lawyers free of cost and that it was SLPP members who had stood as sureties for him to be granted bail in court. He called on the APC not to have trust on Robin Fallay, adding that he is a deceiver and a man that must never be trusted in any society.

Hon. Robin Faley has meanwhile reiterated that come November 17th the world will know between him and John Benjamin who was more popular in Segbwema.

He retorted that he would have wanted Benjamin to contest against him for the parliamentary seat rather than the candidate chosen by the SLPP. He said none of his supporters switched T-shirts and that the youths who made a public show of switching T-shirts were never a part of his supporters. He said him and his thousands of supporters had quit the main township and headed to their farms to work so as not to clash with SLPPs entrance.

I am going to beat the SLPP in Segbwema using the APC symbol, Robin Faley is insisting.

Only November 17th 2012 has the answer but what is now very clear is that Kailahun which used to be an undisputed SLPP territory is going to be a political battle ground for votes.

The wishes of many of the residents who spoke to Awareness Times are that the battle for votes remain to be one of intellectual might rather than of fisticuffs.

Both John Benjamin and Robin Faley have assured there will not be any violence during the elections. This paper will be keeping a very close eye on Segbwema.
