A group of journalists numbering almost thirty, were yesterday October 18th 2012 rescued from Waterloo where they had been abandoned by the ruling APC party campaign organisers. The journalists had early yesterday morning been bussed in to rural Goderich from Central Freetown to cover the launching of the APC Manifesto. They then travelled the peninsular with the President as he campaigned to the locals of seaside villages.

The highly successful campaign route eventually ended in Waterloo where a massive sized campaign rally was hosted. However, at end of the day's events when night had fallen, the buses which brought the journalists, were nowhere to be seen. The APC organisers were also missing in action. In the midst of thick crowd of revelry by Waterloo and Koya rural residents, the poor journalists found themselves stranded with no visible arrangements to transport them back to Freetown.
A distress phone call from some of the stranded journalists to Dr. Sylvia Blyden, the publisher of Awareness Times saw her immediately go into action and put measures in place to rescue the journalists.

Abdul Fonti of Africa Young Voices was amongst those left stranded by the APC at Waterloo and she requested for him to locate every single stranded journalist, charter vehicles to transport all the journalists and bring them safely back to Freetown to the Awareness Times offices at PZ roundabout. Fonti did the task to perfection and ensured all stranded journalists were placed on board taxis and okadas he hired.
As each journalist arrived safely in Freetown, they were full of praises for the kindness shown to them by the publisher who is well known for her philanthropic nature. Awareness Times Head of Admin, Abubakarr Kamara ensured he promptly settled bills for all the drivers of taxis and commercial motorbikes which transported the journalists from where they had been abandoned in Waterloo.
Dr. Sylvia Blyden has meanwhile promised the journalists that she will engage APC campaign team to ensure better respect is accorded journalists who accompany them on their political campaigns.

It is wrong to treat journalists with such disrespect who had gone there to provide a service to you. Better attention should be paid next time to making journalists feel comfortable throughout such campaign trips, she said adding In America, Barack Obama will even take a few moments off to chat with journalists and offer them sweet donuts when they travel with him on campaign trips. President Koroma should emulate such care.
Asked why it was Blyden they called in their distress, many of the rescued journalists said, it is because we trust her.

Another one said, She is always there for us when any journalist in Sierra Leone calls upon her for assistance.
