Apology from Maada Bio to Ernest Koroma is needed in Sierra Leone

The first I heard about the blocking of President Koromas convoy was on Facebook when someone asked me of it last Friday. I had dismissed it as untrue propaganda. However, it is now clear that indeed Bio had breached traffic rules by doing what we call broke traffic in the local parlance.

It is always a risky venture to broke traffic but all of us have done it in the past and we will continue to take such risks when we are trying to get out of that terrible East-end traffic. I know I have taken that risk before. Maada Bio is not the first culprit.

However, this particular broke traffic of Maada Bio has become sensational because it involved blocking the approaching convoy of the Head of State whose position Bio is eyeing in the November presidential polls. The slang on the street now is Ow? U want block me convoy? marking just how much this particular broke traffic of Maada Bio has entered the national discourse.

I will not second-guess what was in the minds of Maada Bios drivers who refused to heed the police orders (twice!) to park and wait for the Presidents convoy to pass. However, this whole matter could have been speedily settled if Maada Bio had better public relations handlers around him. It is still not too late yet for Mr. Bio to do the right thing a gentleman should do. An apology is in order and it should have been issued since the very night of the incident.

I am sure a public apology to the President will go a long way in restoring some of Mr. Bios credentials. Maada Bio has offended the President by forcing the presidential convoy to a halt and when you offend someone, you say I am sorry. Unless Maada Bio had wanted to stop the convoy deliberately?

Over to Mr. Bio to do the right thing; Please apologise to the President. Who knows? It might even convince the President that you are worth sharing the same platform with him.

SLAJ, under Umaru Fofana, has no more credibility to lead any organisation of a presidential debate but the Patriotic Sierra Leoneans association are on standby to conduct a Presidential Debate for November 5th 2012.

If Maada Bio can sincerely apologise for the broke traffic inconvenience, H.E. the President might feel appeased and decide to share a political platform with him and the other Presidential candidates  to discuss issues about Sierra Leone. We will be there to applaud all the nine presidential candidates!
