6 Prepaid Meters Stolen at Leicester

The National Power Authority (NPA) has received six reported cases of stolen prepaid meters at Leicester in the Western Rural District. Reports say thieves are now in the habit of removing prepaid meters from consumers houses on the pretence that they work for the NPA. The NPA management has announced that such unlawful act contravenes some sections of the National Electricity Act 2011, which stipulates that nobody should tamper with any property belonging to the NPA.

 

President Koroma Invites Sierra Leoneans

His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has called on all Sierra Leoneans regardless of their political affiliations and or ethnic belonging to come onboard and join him and his government to develop Sierra Leone. He said the people have spoken by electing him as their president for a second term and that the time for politics is over. He called on all to join hands in rebuilding Sierra Leone.

 

Over 100,000 Invalid Votes

One hundred and eighty thousand, eight hundred and ninety-eight votes, representing 4.7% of the total votes cast in the recently concluded elections in Sierra Leone were invalid. This was according to the National Returning Officer of the National Electoral Commission (NEC) Dr. Christina Thorpe.

 

Arrested NEC Driver Charged to Court

Baimba Jalloh, a driver of one of the National Electoral Commissions (NEC) hired vehicles has been charged to court by the police on four count charges including dangerous driving and disobeying police stop signals.

 

AdvocAid Opens Legal Resource Centre

A local non-governmental organization, AdvocAid, has opened its legal and human rights resource centre and library at its Liverpool Street office in Freetown. AdvocAid was established to support and strengthen access to justice for women, children and girls in conflict with the law. The centre has been equipped with donated text books from the International Law Book Facility, computers and furniture.

 

Le10m GTB Support for VOH

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) has made a donation of Le10,000,000 to the Voice of the Handicapped Radio Station Frequency Modulation (FM) 96.2 in Freetown. The donation is part of the banks corporate social responsibility and is aimed at boosting the broadcast coverage of the radio station with the acquisition of an FM transmitter and antennae.

 

NEC Endorses Chieftaincy Parliamentarians

The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has endorsed Paramount Chiefs elected as Members of Parliament. In exercise of the powers conferred in her, the NEC Chairperson, Dr. Christina Thorpe, has duly declared the candidate as elected Paramount Chief Members of Parliament under Section 68 of the Public Elections Act 2012. A total of eight Paramount Chiefs were nominated as sole candidates in their respective districts.
