THREE OFFICERS OF THE RICE RESEARCH STATION AT ROKUPRR, CONVICTED ON CORRUPTION OFFENCES


Three (3) officers of the Rice Research Station at Rokuprr were on Monday 26th November, 2012 convicted at the High Court in Freetown presided over by the learned Justice Nicholas Browne-Mark C.A for the Misappropriation of Donor and Public Funds contrary to sections 13 and 12(2) of the Anti Corruption Act 2000 (as amended).

 

The convicted persons are the former Acting Director, Edward Yamba Koroma, the Account Clerk, Manso I Kargbo and the Senior Account Clerk, Dominick K Jusu.  The first accused Edward Yamba Koroma was convicted on twenty four (24) counts for the misappropriation of Donor and Public Funds contrary to Section 12 (2) and Section 13 of the Anti-Corruption Act 2000 and sentenced to a cumulative fine of Forty Eight Million Leones(Le 48,000,000 ) or serve a concurrent imprisonment term of three years.

 

The second accused, Manso I. Kargbo, was convicted on eleven(11) counts for the Misappropriation of Donor and Public Funds contrary to Section 12 (2) and 13 of the Anti-Corruption Act 2000 and sentenced to a cumulative fine of Twenty Two Million Leones (Le 22,000,000) or  serve a concurrent  imprisonment term of three years. The third accused, Dominic K. Jusu was convicted on 3 counts for Misappropriation of Public Funds contrary to Section 12(2) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2000. He was sentenced to a cumulative fine of Twelve Million Leones (Le 12,000,000) or serve a concurrent imprisonment term of three years. The State was represented by Miatta Samba whilst the Defeance team included Messer Feo Edwards and Lornald Taylor.

 

Also at the Court of Appeal, in the case of the former employee of the Accountant Generals Department, Francis Komeh Fofanah and a banker at Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, John Mans, the Court has upheld the appeal of John Mans and he was acquitted and discharged, while Francis Komeh Fofanahs conviction was confirmed.
