In Sierra Leone, Please give Underwear Propaganda a Rest

Local journalist Mr. Mohamed One Drop Sankoh is normally a very likeable chap with sharp humour, good wit and a great command of written English. If he can only control his youthful excesses, he will make an excellent journalist in the future. However his biggest liability is his over-exuberance to promote himself as a supporter of President Koroma. He can be so engrossed in self-promotion that he loses direction and ends up being counter-productive of what he would have wanted to happen in favour of the President whom he claims to admire.

One Drop Sankoh is also pliable to being used as a tool at the hands of those who might have hidden agenda. All the same, whatever his vices, Sankoh is a development oriented citizen who has tremendous potential.

Soonest he drops his immature and over-exuberant antics, he will go places. This piece is meant to help set straight some of the fall-out of his recent display of immaturity all at the hands of those who used his penmanship to execute a hidden agenda which was doomed to fail anyway.

Mohamed One Drop Sankoh: You should now STOP propagating libelous shows of immaturity

In a recent article to burnish his credentials as a pro-Koroma journalist (He calls it Koromaism) and meant to make a mockery of an impending political appointment of another person, Mohamed One Drop Sankoh reminded his readers of developments of mid February 2011 when he misbehaved ignominiously and brought himself and his handlers into disrepute.

In February 2011, Sankoh, with an over-exuberant immature speed to please the Presidents handlers, had run a syndicated op-ed article in several local newspapers and online websites in which he had openly called on general public to feel free to ask a then female government critic to tell the public what was the colour of the opposition leaders underwear when he visited the female critics house.

The immoral and offensive article ran for five continuous days in the local and international media without the hapless Independent Media Commission (IMC) doing anything to sanction Sankoh or the newspapers which ran the article. As a result of the offensive and sexually-explicit molestation, the female publisher was to eventually write a very simple front page article in which she questioned of the IMC as to whether it was now okay to publicly discuss the colour of male politicians underwear in newspapers and if so, she then pondered if it was okay for her to ask what was colour of the ruling party leaders underwear?

THAT WAS ALL! The publisher did not say she knows colour of anybodys underwear neither did her retort article discussed in salacious detail the color of the presidents underwear. [U.S. State Department Human Rights Report on Sierra Leone for 2011]. IMC was to issue a Le1m fine for asking a simple question whilst they allowed Sankoh to go scot-free. At the time, the female government critic had also been a strong critic of the main opposition aspiring presidential candidate so it was easy for IMC to get away with such an unfair decision.

Mohamed Sankoh was never sanctioned by the IMC but it is a fact that he still stands liable to be sanctioned in a criminal court or in civil proceedings. This is why Mohamed Sankohs recent attempts to bring up his underwear misdemeanour in tandem with Sorie Fofana of GLOBAL TIMES, was not a good move. Sankoh should be advised that his initial syndicated article went against the Public Order Act of 1965 and the right to sue him for criminal libel is still held by his female victim, Dr. Sylvia Blyden.

This paper and all those affected by the thoughtless and immature penmanship of Mohamed One Drop Sankoh will want to hope that as from todays date, this totally false underwear propaganda is now laid to a permanent rest.

At no point did Sylvia Blyden or anyone ever say they know the colour of the presidents underwear so please stop pushing underwear discourse to score political points. Persistent propagation of this malicious false underwear propaganda, is CRIMINAL LIBEL. You have been strongly advised to stop twisting the underwear saga.  A word to the wise...
