APC Lawyers Set for Supreme Court and for Convention

Lawyers who served the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) during the nation-wide Nomination and all subsequent processes of the successful 2012 elections are now preparing for the second stage of their unwavering support to the APC. This is their legal challenge of the main opposition SLPPs Elections Petition filed at the Supreme Court.

Following the swearing-in of Hon. Justice Valesius Thomas last week, the Supreme Court is expected to empanel judges to look into the petition. The first thing the Supreme Court will however have to contend with is a strongly worded Preliminary Objection which APC lawyers have lodged. APC lawyers want the SLPPs petition to be thrown out of court for being filed not only out of the 7-days time period but not filed according to the Elections Act of 2012. Shortly after SLPPs petition was filed, the APC lawyers led by Lawyer Berthan Macauley had filed papers back in December, showing reasons why the SLPPs case was to be thrown out of court. The APC lawyers believe that based on several grounds of objections raised and affidavits sworn to by Victor Foh, Isha Badamassie and Alpha Muctarr Jalloh Esq., they are confident the SLPPs case would be thrown out of court.

Meanwhile, some of the youthful APC lawyers are believed to be also preparing to contest for positions within the party in the upcoming conventions slated to kick off today all around the country and continue until May 2013 (Please see Page 12). One lawyer who is going for position of Western Area Youth Leader is Lawyer Timbo. His exclusive interview with this newspaper as to why he faithfully served APC during the last Nominations & Elections and why he is the best suited for that Youth Leader position will be out in a subsequent edition of this paper.
