One of Sierra Leone's leading telecommunications companies, Africell Lintel Limited, has disclosed plans to invest millions of leones in the renovation of the Sierra Leone Postal Services (SALPOST).

This was revealed on Friday 22nd March 2013 by the company's Administrative Director, Mr. Abdul Gabisi, who was speaking to journalists at a press conference, held in the Sierra Leone Postal Services on Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown. According to Mr. Gabisi, Africell's corporate social responsibility is driven by community needs and aspirations. He said the company is more determine to put money into projects and programs that benefit the people of Sierra Leone and also improve their overall quality of life.

The Administrative Director noted that the Post Office building, despite it was constructed as far back as in 1964, continues to exemplify modern architecture, and still stands its own around the Bank of Sierra Leone, Rokel Commercial Bank, Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, Access Bank and the Sierra Leone Police Headquarters, among other buildings.

He said in order for the SALPOST building to retain its beauty and architecture, Africell intervened in a big way in 2010 by renovating and painting the building and thereby improving the quality of the environment in the process.

After three years of Africell's intervention Mr. Gabisi went on, the company has again decided to carry out civil work in the Post Office building to continue maintaining its architecture, beauty and office environment, adding that the work is expected to be carried out within a very short time.

Mr. Gabisi said SALPOST is a sister institution to Africell under the Ministry of Information and Communication and as such, they are both in the communications or information transfer business. He said his company looks forward to maintaining a collaborative relationship with SALPOST in the business of 'bringing people closer' through improved communication.

SALPOST's Consultant and Managing Director, Mr. Sam J. Koroma thanked Africell for always supporting the Sierra Leone Postal Services. He said with Africell by its side, SALPOST has been alive and so will it continue to be. According to him, SALPOST is a government institution that is focused on physical distribution of mails and other materials coming into the country and also those going out of the country to other destinations.

He assured that during his tenure as MD, he hopes to ensure that all the Post Offices across the country are actively in operation and upgraded with resource centre facilities in them.

Mr. Koroma used the forum to call on other institutions to copy the footstep of Africell and help improve the postal services of the country. He noted that Africell will try but will never be able to completely solve the needs and wants of the institution without the support of other institutions.
