In Sierra Leone, AKKís Airport Breach: Was Kalilu exchanged with Yaya Totangi?

The former Sierra Leone Ambassador to China, Abdul Karim Koroma (aka AKK) was detained by the Lungi Airport Police on Thursday April 25th 2013 for various acts of lawlessness including bulldozing his way illegally past air-side security at the airport with camera and recording devices in order to molest and photograph a female victim AKK is alleged to have sexually molested in China. Shortly before the November 2012 presidential elections, AKK announced he was joining SLPP because he claimed he was sacked by President Koroma over the sex scandal unfairly.

Now, with the help of operatives at the Lungi Airport, AKK and a journalist from the pro-SLPP Democrat newspaper named Totangi were smuggled into the prohibited and secured arrivals area ostensibly to humiliate and photograph the alleged victim immediately upon her arrival in the country from China on a commercial flight.

It appears someone in China informed AKK that his accuser was arriving in Sierra Leone from China and he allegedly set off to blackmail and intimidate her on arrival; with Totangi in tow.

The terrified young lady on being accosted by AKK right inside the arrivals hall, raised an alarm with airport security officials which caused AKK and Totangi to flee and escape the airport. However, they were both chased in their fleeing Toyota V8 jeep with number AEA-816 along the Lungi Highway and finally apprehended by the ferry they had wished to board to escape.

They were brought back to the airport and placed under arrest at the police station. This is where our information is that something even more dramatic may have occurred. According to sources, between 3am and 4am when the airport was still and quiet, the said Totangi was removed from police custody and taken to an unknown destination by some police officers.

Allegations are now rife that the man who was first arrested alongside AKK was the Editor of Democrat named Kalilu Totangi but that during the movement between 3am and 4am, his younger brother by the name of Yaya Totangi was put in his place whilst Kalilu was released by the police. The reason for this alleged release is cited as being that Kalilu was appointed by defeated SLPP opposition presidential candidate Maada Bio, as his ďHead of Media TeamĒ and in the wake of the recent lawlessness scandal which has plagued the SLPP and Bio, it was believed that it was better to bring in a less known person like Yaya Totangi in middle of the night to be switched with the more notorious Kalilu Totangi.

Kalilu Totangi himself, when the news was first broke that a journalist named Totangi had been arrested, waited for many, many hours before he eventually surfaced on the Internet with a denial that it was not him but his younger brother. Those touting the allegation that it was him first arrested, are now saying the delay in his denial is because he was finding a way to transport himself from Lungi back to Freetown before he made any comment. Kalilu Totangi however strongly denies all of this and says his hitherto-unknown Ďjournalistí brother is the one who got involved in messy criminal situation.

Police sources tell Awareness Times that they are taking the allegation of a ďbody switch whilst in police custodyĒ¬† very seriously and that they will ask the Westminister Security agency at the airport for a close examination of CCTV recordings for the night of the criminal activity for which AKK & his Totangi accomplice stand accused.

Meanwhile, the detained Totangi and AKK himself have been moved from the airport to the CID in Freetown where statements have been taken from them.Breaching airport security is a serious criminal offence in Sierra Leone. Information is that their airport staff accomplices have also been transferred to Freetown over the weekend and questioned by the CID.
