One of the most eloquent and dynamic female Members of Parliament representing the main opposition Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) from Constituency 82 in Moyamba District, Hon. Gladys Gbapi-Brima, has in an exclusive interview with the Awareness Times on Thursday 9th May 2013, called on the SLPP and the people of Kailahun district to replace the late Hon. Alice Mamie Foyah with another vibrant woman to represent them in Parliament.

Hon. Gbapi-Brima granted us an interview, few minutes after a special ceremony held by Members of Parliament to offer collective prayers for the deceased lady inside the Well of Parliament yesterday May 9th 2013.

Hon. Gladys Gbapi-Brima: A Salone Woman of Excellence

According to Hon. Gbapi-Brima, the late Hon. Alice Mamie Foyah was one of the party's eloquent and vibrant Members of Parliament prior to her demise. She said it is important that the party award symbol to another woman who will do the same or even do more than what the late woman MP was doing for her people and the party.

Hon. Gladys Gbapi revealed that the sudden death of Hon. Foyah is a big loss to the SLPP, female Members in Parliament and the people of Kailahun respectively, adding that this loss can only be replaced when the party choose another woman to be awarded the symbol for that seat.

Hon. Gbapi said that despite the deceased political affiliation during her life time, she had always been making contributions putting the development of Sierra Leone first before party's interest.

"We the SLPP female Members in Parliament were badly underrepresented compared to the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) party even before the death of Hon. Foyah and now that she has gone, more gaps have been created" said Hon. Gbapi, adding; "we would like to see another great woman be awarded the symbol to represent the women, the people of Kailahun and the party in parliament."

Meanwhile it was revealed in Parliament yesterday May 9th that there will be a Funeral Service for the late Hon. Mrs. Alice Foyah at the Sanctuary Praise Church on Sawi Drive off King Harman Road in Freetown on Wednesday 15th May 2013. This will be followed by the Opening of the Book of Condolence and Laying-Out in the morning of Thursday 16th May at the House of Parliament on Tower Hill and on the same day at the SLPP Headquarters on Wallace Johnson Street.

On Friday 17th May, there will be a Laying-Out at Villa 08, OAU village, Hill Station in Freetown and this will be followed by a departure of the mortal remains of the late woman by road to Kenema, where there will also be another Laying-Out at the SLPP regional office in Kenema the same day before being conveyed to Kailahun.

In Kailahun, there will be a traditional ceremony to be organized on Saturday by the women and on Sunday 19th May, a funeral mass would be held at the Saint John's Catholic Church in Kailahun for the late woman and she will be buried in Kailahun town.
