London Mining RefurbishesLunsar Landmark

Building on foundations established by Delco over four decades ago, London Mining has further demonstrated its commitment to the community and people of Lunsar and its environs by renovating the Lunsar Town Hall.

Constructed by Delco 42 years ago, the Town Hall had slowly slipped into a state of disrepair since the company ceased operations in Sierra Leone. Recognising the buildings essential role at the heart of the community, as the centre of local government and as an important venue for civil and cultural activities - such as marriages, art shows, concerts and discos - London Mining shouldered the responsibility for renovating this iconic institution

Renovation work completed to date includes re-painting the entire building, re-wiring, and the installation of plumbing system and a metal gate.Follow-on work will include the installation of a water well and the landscaping of the compound. The renovated Town Hall, which will serve the Marampa and Marforki chiefdoms, was officially handed over to the Lunsar community on 3 May 2013.

On behalf of the communities, the Member of Parliament for Constituency 50, Honourable Isata Kabbia, thanked London Mining for the laudable initiative, adding that the companys Community Relations Department was familiar with community problems. Urging London Mining to continue its policy of hiring indigenes of mining chiefdoms, she observed that the provision of jobs is critical to the maintaining cordial relations between London Mining and mining the community.

Responding for London Mining Barry Honnah, General Manager - Human Resources and Community Relations, affirmed that London Mining and the Lunsar community are partners in development. The Lunsar Town Hall is a symbol of that partnership, which London Mining has renovated as a gift to the community. This is not an isolated initiative but the first in a long line of continued support, with pending projects including the provision of a maternity ward at the LunsarHealth Centre, the provision of tertiary scholarships (supplementing the on-going primary and secondary schools schemes) and support for agriculture and youth development.
