SLPP Chairman Rejects Maada Bioís Leadership
By Paul Lamin in Kenema

The Chairman and Leader of the opposition Sierra Leone Peopleís Party (SLPP), John Oponjo Benjamin (JOB) has debunked widespread rumors within the Kenema township that the SLPP has officially endorsed the defeated former flag bearer of the party, Julius Maada Bio, to lead the party to the 2017 presidential election.

JOB made this clarification at a radio interview on Monday 3rd June 2013 at the Eastern Radio in Kenema.Mr. Benjamin, who was in Kenema to handover drugs donated to the Kenema Government Hospital by the SLPP, said rumours indicating that Maada Bio has been endorsed by the party are fake and untrue, while calling on supporters and members of the party to just dismiss such rumours. He categorically made it clear that the SLPP currently has no flag bearer, noting the party has not even prioritized yet the issue of electing a flag bearer.

ďWe still have a very long way to go to 2017 and the party is currently concentrated on other important issues and not the flag bearer matter,Ē he said, noting that top on the partyís agenda is the election petition case at the Supreme Court.

ďWhen the time comes for the party to elect a new flag bearer it will not be a secret and each and every member of the party would be involved in the entire process,Ē he said.

JOB did not mince his words while responding to the question of whether or not the SLPP has winning candidates. He said there are people in the SLPP that are even more competent, hardworking and like by the people, with the political clout to poll more votes than even Maada Bio.

The SLPP Chairman while responding to questions bordering on nationwide development projects congratulated President Ernest Bai Koroma for not being selective in his developmental undertakings, noting that every region and district is benefiting from ongoing developments.

He was however, quick to cite the Kailahun Road project as one of the many projects started by the SLPP government.
