A police officer attached to the Operation Support Department (OSD) of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Constable C.S. Kamara, serving as a night security at Aces Night Club in Aberdeen, has shot and killed another OSD Police Constable, Alie Sayangi Koroma, attached to a Government functionary at State House in Freetown.

The ugly incident took place at about 3:00am on Monday 10th June 2013 at Grand Casino Leone, Massage and Beauty Salon on Cape Road, Aberdeen in Freetown. It was perceived by several community residents as another rebellious civil war attack on them, with over ten gunshots fired at the scene, causing several residents and staff of night clubs on Aberdeen beach to flee for their lives.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Casino, a Senegalese national who identified himself as 444, he was at work at the Casino when he started hearing gunshots outside the Casino. He said he came out to find out what was going on and was told that a police officer had shot another police officer at the frontage of the new Casino building situated few meters from the main Casino building.

About an hour later, 444 went on; he saw dozens of angry thugs, mainly beach boys, running towards the Casino with stones and some offensive weapons.

He said before he could alert his private securities in the Casino, the boys had started pelting stones and sticks on the building and later extended the attack to the new building that is currently under construction, almost completed and furnished.

As if that was not enough for the attackers, 444 went on that they broke into the two buildings, the massage and the beauty salon and carted away physical cash, furniture and equipments worth hundreds of Dollars, whilst also leaving properties including vehicles and motor bikes damaged.

The CEO said during the attack, he made several telephone calls to the police station at Aberdeen, which is situated at a distance lesser than 400meters to the scene of crime and also to the Congo Cross Police Division who sent in few personnel to the scene hours after the incident had been coiled by private security personnel.

According to the Head of Operations at the OSD, Samuel Kargbo, who doubles as Lead Investigator in the matter, he said the incident was actually between the two police officers and that he was yet to see any reason why it was extended to include the beach boys.

However, he revealed that they have visited the scene of crime, taken records of the damages caused and that the matter was now with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the SLP for further investigations.

Mr. Kargbo further revealed that the remains of the deceased was conveyed to the mortuary of the Connaught Hospital and was buried on Monday 10th June 2013, whilst the killer officer is currently in police detention, making his statement.
