On All-Important Youth Issue:

In Sierra Leone, where the Youth Issue is one of the biggest issues to be handled today, a Presidential Youth Aide has been appointed this week in order to assist and advise the President on the all-important matter of the Youths. Now, I have read some criticisms here and there against this particular appointment with some calling it to be superfluous. Some people say if there is a Cabinet Minister & Deputy Minister for Youths as well as a Youth Commission, there should be no one else at State House called a Presidential Youth Aide working closely with the President on youth matters. Well, I disagree.

Appointing special people to assist/advise Presidents in their executive office around specific sectors is normal.

Infact, do you all know how many Special Assistants, Deputy Assistants, Executive Assistants, Special Advisors and Sector-Specific Aides that Barack Obama has at the WHITE HOUSE? Let me tell you the answer: hundreds of them! And this is notwithstanding the fact that Obama has Cabinet Ministers for each of those sectors for which he subsequently appointed Advisers and Assistants.

So, if you think having many hands on deck in Sierra Leone to combat the all-important Youth Question is superfluous, well let me direct you to a recent announcement from WHITE HOUSE on an all-important issue close to Obama's heart (i.e: Urban affairs) just as Youths are close to President Koroma's heart.

Before reading the extract from the announcement, note that there is an U.S. Cabinet Minister (Secretary) responsible for Housing & Urban Development in the person of Shaun L.S. Donovan.

WHITE HOUSE ANNOUNCEMENT:

President Barack Obama announced the following White House posts: Adolfo Carrion, White House Director of Urban Affairs and Derek Douglas, Special Assistant to the President for Urban Affairs.

FROM THIS, it is clear that on a same date, President Barack Obama saw need to have, in addition to his Cabinet Minister, a White House Special Assistant to the President AND a White House Director in sub-sector of Urban affairs. Similarly so, President Koroma, realises the importance of YOUTHS today in Sierra Leone and promises he made to them that made them vote him in so massively in sober-minded areas. If the President then decides to appoint an extra hand like Bai Mahmoud Bangura, to assist/advise on youth matters, then more grease to our visionary President's elbow. Many hands make light work.
