Dr. Sylvia Blyden: Special Executive Assistant to His Excellency the President of Sierra Leone
Special Executive Assistant (SEA) to the President, Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden has accompanied His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma to Nigeria where he is currently attending both an African Union Summit and an ECOWAS Summit for West African Heads of State.

President Koroma on Sunday July 14th 2013 arrived safely in Abuja, Nigeria for a special African Union (AU) Summit on Malaria, HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis which will run from today July 15th to July 16th. Following the AU Summit, the 43rd Ordinary Summit of ECOWAS Heads of State of West African countries is slated to hold from July 17th to July 18th. This means President Koroma is currently in Nigeria to attend both an AU Summit and also an ECOWAS Summit. This is all according to a news update on the Facebook wall of the SEA.

According to Blydens Facebook update, the presidential delegation is expected back in Freetown after the ECOWAS Meeting ends. Meanwhile, Blydens report indicates that on Wednesday July 17th, Nigerias President Goodluck Jonathan and Sierra Leones President Ernest Koroma will jointly do the Public Launching of an institution to be known as the NIGERIA-SIERRA LEONE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

Meanwhile, news monitored on the Internet by this writer indicates that many African leaders have already arrived in the Nigerian capital to review strategies against AIDS, TB, malaria. The meeting is being called as Abuja +12 which means 12 years after the 2001 Abuja Summit on HIV/AIDS, TB and Other related Infectious Diseases (ORID) where African leaders pledged amongst other things to place the fight against HIV/AIDS and malaria at the forefront and as the highest priority issue in their respective national development plans. The outcome of the 2001 Abuja Summit was Africas contribution to the June 2001 UN General Assembly Special Session on AIDS which adopted the Declaration of Commitment on AIDS.

The theme of Abuja+12 African Union Special Summit is Ownership, Accountability and Sustainability of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Response in Africa: Past, Present and the Future.

Meanwhile, the 43rd ECOWAS Summit of Heads of State will look into the Report of the President of ECOWAS Commission for the year 2013 and also hear the report on the situation in Guinea Bissau as well as the Situation in Mali. The 30th Meeting of the Mediation and Security Council will also present their report as will the report on the 70th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers. The date and venue for the 44th ECOWAS Summit will also be decided upon.
