Quotable Quote: I do not want anyone to be arrested or denied bail

I do not want anyone to be arrested or denied bail or kept in police cells as this is not a seditious or suspected treason matter like that of Jonathan Leigh. However, my desire is for all six of them to be charged to court to defend why they published those libelous articles. It is my right as a bonafide citizen. I have requested and been given the go-ahead by my boss, His Excellency the President, to file a complaint in my personal capacity which I have now done. So let SLPPs Andrew Keili, SLPPs M.I.K. Baryoh and the journalists they are using to propagate defamatory libel, hate and disaffection supposedly on behalf of the VP, all go to courts to defend their publications, Dr. Blyden said.

SLPPs Andrew Keili & M.I.K. Baryoh Invited to CID with their Journalists

FIRST PUBLISHED ON WEDNESDAY 23RD OCTOBER 2013 & REPRODUCED TODAY

Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, Special Executive Assistant to President Koroma has confirmed to Awareness Times that in afternoon of Monday October 21st 2013, she lodged criminal complaints to the Police CID (Criminal Investigations Department) against main opposition SLPP  politician Mr. Andrew Keili, who is the proprietor of Salone Times newspaper, alongside his two editors, Donald Theo-Harding and Thomas Dixon for an article published which she deems as putting her life at risk and defamatory of her person. The article, supposedly in defence of Vice-President Sam-Sumana, alleged that Dr. Blyden used to be in the financial payroll of the VP and was paid to clear VP during the Aljazeera scandal. Keilis Salone Times had unsubstantiated, malicious claims aimed at inciting public disaffection and hate against her person and putting her life at risk . It also had needless insults like President Koroma you need to tame your shrew.

Furthermore, Dr. Blyden confirms that she has also filed a complaint at the CID against M.I.K. Baryoh who owns Global Times alongside his publisher and editor, Sorie Fofana and Sheikh Bawoh for publishing an article in defence of Vice-President over supposed side-lining by the President. The article falsely says  Blyden is mentally deranged, is also propelled by insanity and says she is in a jaundiced craze.

According to Blydens complaint to the Police, she has never been diagnosed with any mental illness or condition needing psychiatric or neurotic attention.

Police CID Director, Ibrahim Sizeman Koroma has confirmed that Andrew Keili and his editors have been issued with formal Invitation letters to appear this morning for interrogation whilst M.I.K. Baryoh and his crew should appear in the early afternoon.

Blyden said last evening.

Blyden has also waved off threats from local journalists that they would hound her in their various media for seeking to have charges pressed.

Who cares? They know I am not afraid of any journalist so let them go and threaten corrupt functionaries who are scared of journalists, Dr. Blyden said as she dismissed their rants.

About whether proprietors of papers can be charged to court alongside editors, Blyden explained that Section 37 of the Public Order Act makes it clear that anyone causing, directly or indirectly the print, writing, painting, effigy or other means by which the defamatory, seditious or false matter is conveyed is liable for the crime committed and can face jail time. This means if politicians hiding behind journalists, are eventually charged to court and found guilty of criminal libel, they will face jail time of up to two years behind bars and will also get criminal records.

Global Times M.I.K. Baryoh is known as having been a top SLPP financier and SLPP Youth Leader whilst Salone Times Andrew Keili was a contender for SLPPs presidential ticket for 2012 elections which SLPP lost.Since the SLPP lost elections last year, these pro-SLPP newspapers have taken it upon themselves to be insulting President Koroma and government  functionaries supposedly in a fight for the VP whom they claim is being side-lined by the President.

In this process, SLPP politicians have caused disaffection in our fragile democracy with their inciteful publications. Steps are now being taken to curtail level of criminal extent they have gone to.
