I was astonished at article titled: Sylvia Here, Sylvia There, Sylvia Why? written by main opposition Sierra Leone Peopleís Party (SLPP) Spokesman, Musa Tamba Sam and published prominently in Monday 4th November 2013 edition (on Page 2) of the SLPP official mouthpiece, Unity Newspaper. It was molesting, ridiculing and lambasting the Special Executive Assistant (SEA) to President Koroma, Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden. The article was unfounded and had no basic facts about Dr. Blyden except full of molestation, rudeness and insults by SLPP. Everything about the article ran contrary to the Code of Practice of the Independent Media Commission (IMC) but no-one has queried the SLPP newspaper or the SLPP Spokesman. Everything about the article ran against the criminal laws of the land but no-one has cautioned Musa Tamba Sam or cautioned the SLPP. It is when Dr. Blyden will seek to have her rights upheld, that you will have idlers marching in idleness to the Police CID.
I however have no doubts in Dr. Blyden to handle Musa Tamba Sam but I want to advise SLPP, which is the party where my late Paramount Chief grandfather was a Founding member. Most Sambas are SLPP supporters.
Few days ago, SLPP Deputy  Chairman & Leader Dr. Prince Harding recently visited my family residence to console the Samba Family on the death of my Step-Mother. He drew me to one side to complain that Awareness Times was invited to their SLPP press briefing last week but we snubbed them and did not cover their matter about the Speaker of Parliament amendment.
Dr. Prince Harding jokingly asked if Awareness Times did not cover the SLPP Press Conference based on Ďorders from aboveí meaning he was jokingly asking if our former Publisher, Dr. Blyden, had stopped us from covering the SLPP. I firmly assured Dr. Prince Harding that day that Dr. Sylvia Blyden has never stopped any one of us from covering any SLPP event. I told him that we never received any invitation and we can not cover what we were not invited to.
Dr. Harding expressed shock and said he gave Musa Tamba Sam, a list of prominent newspapers to be invited and Awareness Times was right amongst the top. I assured him again that Musa Tamba Sam did not invite us but assured him that if he gave us a copy of the Press release, I will have it covered.
I have since ensured the SLPP matter on Speaker of Parliament has received adequate coverage without even recourse to Dr. Blyden on this matter. I finished University and joined Awareness Times six years ago and right now, I have more influence in what comes out in Awareness Times than Dr. Blyden. Fact!
This is why Musa Tamba Sam is absurd and misplaced when he attributes the contents of Awareness Times to Sylvia Blyden. What about when we praise SLPP or cover SLPP positively, is that again by Dr. Blyden? Silly fellow.
I am asking Chief Somano Kapen, Dr. Prince Harding and other well-meaning SLPP members to advise Musa Tamba Sam to stay away from molesting Dr. Sylvia Blyden on the basis of what comes out in Awareness Times. A true political party believes in image building and does not go on offensive without any provocation.
What did Blyden do to Musa Tamba Sam?
In all political conventions held by all political parties, Awareness Times has always sent dedicated and senior reporters to conduct a fair coverage. In the SLPP last convention held in Bo City, I personally led the team of Awareness Times to cover that convention. We were the only newspaper that was updating the whole world on time without prejudice through the internet.
The newspaper has no malice against the SLPP and its membership but no one will intimidate us from highlighting vices of SLPP like we have properly done in this edition.
