In Sierra Leone, NFF Commences ĎUse of Naked Fireí Campaign

The National Fire Force (NFF) in Sierra Leone on Wednesday 20th November 2013 commenced a fire safety sensitization campaign code named ďUse of Naked Fireí, aimed to caution the general public against the use of unchecked naked fire.

According to fire personnel in the campaign, the watchful use of naked fire will help prevent and reduce the increasing rate of uncontrolled fire outbreaks across the country.

The campaign, which targeted residents in the Western Urban and Rural districts, featured dozens of fire fighters using public address systems to pass on fire prevention messages to the public.

In the east end of Freetown, the fire fighters called on street-side cookery shop owners, roast meat and roast corn sellers, who are in the habit of using street-side to set up naked fire, to desist from such act in public places.

The fire fighters used the forum to explain the dangers surrounding the use of naked fire, especially in vulnerable communities where there are no rapid fire prevention measures such as fire engines.

The fire fighters further called on the Freetown City Council (FCC) join them in the campaign and to also ensure they revive the City Trade Act, which according to them will help to get traders off the streets, especially those using street corners as kitchens.
