Famous Chief Kapen
Members of Parliament representing the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) from various constituencies across the country have expressed satisfaction and showered praises on the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) party for what they referred to as a "well designed budget" presented to them.

The opposition MPs yesterday 4th December 2013 joined their colleague MPs from the ruling party to thank the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Dr. Kaifala Marah and his government for presenting such a "rich budget" to them on behalf of the people of Sierra Leone.

The SLPP parliamentarians were particularly happy and thankful to the government for the acute salary increment made in the budget. They called on government to ensure that the increment takes effect just immediately as inscribed in the document.

On the contrary, the National Chairman and Leader of the SLPP, Chief Sumanoh Kapen has described the 2014 Annual Budget as "an inflationary financial document that has the tendencies to bring down the country's crawling economy."

Chief Kapen was speaking to Awareness Times in an exclusive interview last evening in his office at the party's Headquarters in Freetown, where he disclosed that "the document will open the flood gate of inflation thereby drowning the nation's economic prosperity."

He said one of the main instruments that will ensure the sound financial management of any nation is its budget, adding that the SLPP generally believed that the micro-economic framework on which the 2014 Budget is founded, is unsound, less imaginative and not in line with the dreams and aspirations of the ordinary Sierra Leonean.

According to him, the elites in the society will reap all the benefits therein at the detriment of the underclass, adding that the increase in salaries and wages in the Budget will trigger inflation, whereby too much money will be chasing too few goods.

The SLPP chairman further stated that relative price stability will be upset by the increase in the wage bill and that there will be no corresponding equation in goods and services in the market.

The result according to him, will in the future open the flood gate of inflation thereby drowning the nation's economic prospect from a middle income nation, as projected by the World Bank and other financial instructions, to a down trodden.

Chief Sumanoh Kapen used the forum to totally condemn the entire Budget and called on the APC government to review the document for the good of all Sierra Leoneans.
