Maada Bio wins attention from Sierra Leone Minister as he gets lectured

The All Peoples Congress (APC) Resident Minister East, Mr. William Juana Smith, has debunked Sierra Leone Peoples Party's (SLPP) former flag bearer and presidential candidate, Julius Maada Bio's appeal for President Koroma not to sign the newly amended 'Speaker's Bill' by the honourable House of Parliament.

Minister Juana Smith was speaking in an exclusive interview with Awareness Times yesterday Monday 9th December 2013 in his office in Kenema, where he said Maada Bio's appeal was totally uncalled for and unnecessary.

The resident minister used the forum to call on President Koroma not heed to Maada Bio's appeal but to go ahead and sign the bill for it to become law.

He said it would be discriminatory to say only Judges or people qualified to be appointed Judges, are qualified to be elected Speakers of Parliament, more so in a country like Sierra Leone where the Parliament is independent from the Judiciary.

Mr. William Juana Smith said the issue surrounding the election of Speaker of Parliament is not an entrenched clause in the law books of Sierra Leone and that there are always provisions for parliament to amend some of these laws as and when necessary.

He said it was morally wrong for Maada Bio to have preempted the outcome of the amendment, noting that begging President Koroma not to sign a bill approved by the country's accredited law-makers is unacceptable to the people of this country.

Minister Juana Smith went on that the former flag bearer seems to be jittery over the new law, while calling on him to be relaxed and have confidence in the law-makers that were duly elected to represent their people in parliament.
