Sierra Leone: Grey Bush Landslide & Poor Roads??

I was just thinking of socio-economic value and positive impact of ongoing unprecedented roads infrastructure being built throughout Sierra Leone, when I came across a Reuters report by Umaru Fofana about Sunday's sad landslide at Grey Bush. According to Umaru, "landslides are commonplace in Freetown, where roads and infrastructure are often poorly maintained."

However, I can state that the cause of Grey Bush landslide, like most landslides in Freetown including as far back as the August 1945 Charlotte village fatal landslide, have nothing to do with roads. Therefore, associating alleged "poorly maintained" roads with this devastating, sad natural disaster occurence, is just plain mischief in an international new report.

I guess it is true that for some Sierra Leone journalists, positive imagery like how it is now faster to traverse our country because of highly improved roads, is not in their journalism DNA. Bad news sells and what sells is what keeps their family pot on the fire; no matter the inimical effect on attracting investors and visitors.

We can safely assume we will not read of nationally improved roads from Umaru on Reuters, anytime soon. Why? Because that is "too good" to be news. Good roads in all districts is sign of Sierra Leone progress and such progressive reports do not keep the pot on the fire.

May souls of landslide victims rest in perfect peace.
