This newspaper will like to inform that, unlike women who became famous because of a political appointment they received or famous because they are married to a top politician or who are famous because of their political party they belong to, factually speaking, Sylvia Olayinka Blyden is famous on her own merit.

PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR A SHORT PROFILE OF A DISTINGUISHED DAUGHTER OF THE SOIL.

A Short Profile

Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, OOR.

Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Walmina Oreshola Blyden, OOR, was born October 1st 1971 in Freetown, Sierra Leone, making her to be 42 years old. Prior to her appointment to State House as the first woman ever appointed to Sierra Leone State House with Cabinet-rank, Dr. Blyden was many other things.

Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Walminah Oresola Blyden, Officer of the Order of the Rokel

A qualified medical doctor with two university degrees from Sierra Leone’s College of Medicine and a Full Certification in United States of America by the U.S. Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, Dr. Sylvia Blyden has mastered diverse other fields such as the Internet, Information Technology, Commercial Business, Journalism and Politics.

Dr. Blyden, in 2002, became the youngest ever Sierra Leonean to lead a registered national political party into general elections. Amongst other attributes, Blyden is a successful journalist & socio-political commentator, a human rights activist, a children appointed goodwill ambassador, a youths goodwill ambassador, a women’s activist, owner of the country’s fastest selling and most widely read newspaper and a philanthropist per excellence.

Whilst at University, in June 1994, she emerged as Sierra Leone’s first, and so far, the only woman to be elected as a University of Sierra Leone students’ union president; beating two male candidates in a landslide victory.

Dr. Sylvia Blyden is not married and has no children of her own but is known to literally take care of hundreds of children around the country. She is the great-great-granddaughter of Edward Wilmot Blyden, the “father of Pan-Africanism”. Her maternal grandfather is the 94 years old Sierra Leonean politician Solomon A. J. Pratt who was one of the brains behind the APC’s victorious entrance into governance in 1967. Her paternal grandfather is the late politician & diplomat, Edward Wilmot Blyden III.

The name SYLVIA OLAYINKA BLYDEN is a household name throughout Sierra Leone. Dr. Sylvia Blyden is famous, loved and admired by many. Most importantly is that all of what she has achieved, has been on her own merit; due to nothing but her courageous and very honest character, her love for humanity, her well-noted academic brilliance, her versatility from being multi-talented and her God-given unique insights and foresight. With no gainsaying, it will be very difficult to find another woman in Sierra Leone who can match her current credentials.

Dr. Sylvia Blyden’s courageous positions have sometimes stirred controversies but her usually uncompromising stances always prove to be the morally correct ones at the end of the day.

Dr. Sylvia Blyden’s Facebook page notes her favourite quotation to be from the Holy Bible in PROVERBS 29: 25-27: “The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe. Many seek the ruler’s favour, but justice for man comes from the Lord. An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous and he who is upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked.”
