Over forty journalists who are members of the Sierra Leone Parliamentary Press Gallery have been certified for reporting on Reproductive Health and Abortion. The capacity building training which was organized by non-governmental organization IPAS Sierra Leone selected various newsmen who write on Parliamentary issues. The workshop which lasted for two consecutive days was geared towards providing a space for journalists to share recent advances on the issues of addressing unsafe abortion in Sierra Leone and the entire Africa. The workshop also focuses on strengthening skills on how to report on abortion during the upcoming policy formulation at the national level.

Awareness Times trainee, Sylvia Kamara said this training was an opportunity for her journalistic career.

This is my first training as a cub reporter and it will help me immensely to report on reproductive health and unsafe abortion as well as womens rights she posited.

Vice President of the Sierra Leone Press Gallery, Sulaiman Bah said the training was important as it would help them to report on womens sexual reproductive health and rights. He said over the years journalists were having a mixed perception about reporting on womens reproductive health and right. My membership was very happy with the initiative that inspired Ipas to have delivered such training for them he maintained. Many participants have expressed interest in educating the public through their various media.
