As part of their Corporate Social Responsibilities in catering for the Education, Health and Sanitation needs of all, and in joining the fight against the dreadful Ebola disease in the country, the Sierra Leone State Lottery Company Limited (LOTTO) has on Thursday 17th July at State House presented a Cheque of Fifty Million Leones (Le50,000,000) to His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, for onward presentation to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.

The presentation was done by the Managing Director of Sierra Leone State Lottery Company Limited (LOTTO) Mr. Charles Kamara.

Presenting the Cheque, Mr. Kamara said the donation is a show of his companys commitment in the fight against the Ebola virus. He said, as a government owned institution it is their responsibility to attend to the health needs of Sierra Leoneans, adding that, the fight against Ebola is a national fight as it militates against the growth and development of the country if not addressed in time.

He told the President that, they are partners in development so the fight against the menace is a national fight, thus the donation.

He informed the President that, they will in the next two weeks officially launch their Odds Sports Betting, including Football, Athletics, Tennis, Boxing amongst others. In asset, he revealed, State Lottery is worth over 45 Billion Leones, adding that, after 52 years Sierra Leone State Lottery has moved from a manual to an automated system.

He said State Lottery is a responsible and well managed institution, for which they are kindly asking the President Koroma to set up a lottery regulatory body that will ensure a level playing field for the lottery industry in the country.

Receiving the Cheque, President Koroma expressed profound gratitude to management and staff of the company, saying that the Ebola virus is now with us in the country and repeating his call on all to join in the fight against the disease.

He said the country has had the outbreak from May and so far 85 people have survived which is a clear indication that if people are honest in identifying those with the virus on time about the existence of the virus then it can be cured and the lives of Sierra Leoneans can be saved.

President Koroma noted that whilst government and partners are making progress in combating the spread of the disease, we should as well intensify surveillance of contact persons as we cannot treat Ebola victims in our homes except we take them to the appropriate institutions for observation and for proper treatment to be fully effected.

President Koroma also said that government is now left with no option but to fight the spread of the disease by tracing those with the virus and taking them to isolation centers as well as to intensity sensitization on prevention and cure.

He also informed them that, in consonance with the Chairman of the National Commission for Privatization, they will work on the lottery regulatory body.

He then called on other Ministries, Departments and Agencies to emulate the good work of Sierra Leone State Lottery Company to join the fight against the Ebola virus.
