Sierra Leone News : Fullahs Robe Temne President & Limbas Host Other Tribes

In a bid to promote unity and brotherhood, Members of the Fullah Community on Friday 26th June 2015 dressed the President of the Temne Community Development Council, Alhaji Issa Catco Kamara with their usual Fullah Traditional Dress at a colourful ceremony at the Fullah Central Mosque Magazine Cut. In another engagement, members of the Fullah, Mende and Temne Community Development Councils joined the Limbas in their Limba Central Mosque at Masjid Amin, Sander Street, to observe Jumah prayers. The ceremony was witnessed by several personalities of the four Communities and was climaxed with traditional gifts exchange.

All of these actions are in a bid to follow one of the enshrined sections of the Holy Quran in Sura Hujurat 49 verse 13 which reads O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.

At the Fullah Mosque itself on 26th June, in his welcome address, an elder of the Fullah Central Mosque, Sheikh Mohamed Ahmad Barrie recalled the strides for unity amongst the tribes and the earlier relationship between the Fullahs and Temnes during the 50s. He stressed that the first person to accommodate the Fullahs in Sierra Leone were the Temnes whom he said were very hospitable.

Sheikh Barrie congratulated the Temne Community Development Council for their wonderful initiative to bridge the gap between the tribes and to foster the bond of brotherhood to join in nation building.

In his remarks, the National President of Temne Community Development Council expressed gratitude to the Fullahs for their gracious welcome of his delegation. He said that his main aim was to strengthen unity among Muslim Communities by bridging inter-tribal gaps and bring all Muslim worshippers under one umbrella, so that they can form a strong force for national development and that the Mosque will have the required respect it deserves.

Alhaji Catco lashed out on those who are seeing the initiative as politically motivated. He emphasized that there is no iota of political aim for this unity but to continue bridging the gap as stated in the Holy Quran and called on those misleading their initiative to stop forth with as no one forced him to quit politics years back.

Alhaji Catco called on community stakeholders to encourage their people to adhere to the rules and regulations prescribed by the health practitioners to eradicate the deadly Ebola disease in the country. He said if only we continue with massive sensitization in all our five daily prayers, adhere to the advice of Health Practitioners coupled with prayers, by Allahs grace, Ebola will be eradicated by the end of the Month of Ramadan.

Since 2012, Sierra Leone has been enjoying tremendous levels of harmony between the various tribal groupings of a kind not seen in contemporary times.
