His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma on August 13th, said, he was shocked and dismayed to have learnt of the explosion at a warehouse in the northern port city of Tianjin, which resulted to the death and injury of dozens of people.
Extending his country’s condolences to President Xi Jinping, President Koroma expressed optimism that the resilient people of China will surmount “this tragedy and be further inspired for the continued strength, progress and prosperity of your great country.”
On Wednesday 12th August, a huge explosion hit a warehouse in Tianjin, killing at least 50 people. The blast, which occurred in the Binhai New Area on the city's coast, occurred at about 11.30pm local time.
CHINADAILY online quoted Xinhua news agency to have reported that 18 firefighters remained missing, with 66 amongst the hundreds of people hospitalized since the explosion.
President Xi Jinping and Premier Like have called for greater efforts to save the injured, whilst cause of explosion is yet to be known.
A seaport city located north of China with a population of 15 million, Tianjin is a forty-five minutes ride via train from Beijing, China’s capital.
Sierra Leone and China have continuously stood along each other especially during moments of crisis.
China has been a major player in the fight against Ebola in the small West African nation of Sierra Leone.
The latest condolence from President Koroma further illustrates the long standing friendship between the two nations which commenced in 1971 when both countries entered into diplomatic ties.
