Audio recorded on 19th June 2016 and had been of incident of 3rd May 2016.

Transcribed by the author himself (A. M. Bangura) whose voice is heard speaking in the audio.

Greeting All!!

I am Abdul Malik Bangura, Acting Editor of Awareness Times Newspaper. This recording is to share my concerns over a social media article that is alleging that the Honourable Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Childrenís Affairs; Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden ordered the unlawful arrest of an old man because he was selling around her ministry.

I want to state that the news article is wrong. I was an eye witness on the day the said incident happened. I speak today (19th June 2016) with all honesty about what happened. Honestly, Honourable Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden on the 3rd May 2016 was not feeling too bright. She had been ill. However, she chose to go for work because that was the day her deputy, Hon. Rugiatu Nenneh Turay started work. As a responsible minister, she went to the office to help settle her deputy minister on her first day at work.

Meanwhile, I was there at the scene when upon her arrival at the office, from her official jeep, she saw two men whom were bent down hunched together; barely two feet away from the side of her office door entrance. They were bent down in a way that if the minister was going into her office, she would have to pass by them into her office but without noticing what they were doing.

However, the Honourable minister appeared to be very curious and she refused to step out of her vehicle. Instead, she sent her security to check what the two men were doing. The security met both of the men bent over. One was holding a bag and the other wasnít. The security took the bag from the former. He opened it and found a lot of ďJujuĒ (African black magic items) in it. The reason for the securityís action of searching the bag was because he saw some of the ďjujuĒ in the hands of the bag owner as he initially approached them.

Furthermore, one of the men happened to be an AfCOM staff. Everyone was aware of the corruption disagreement between the Honourable Minister and AfCOM at that time. AfCOM was paid some money to install internet facilities to the various Social Welfare provincial offices, but were unable to do it well. That prompted serious issues between AfCOM and Hon. Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden.

Upon interrogation by the security, the AfCOM staff who was met with the imported herbalist, said he was there to buy African herbal medicines from the other man. Can you imagine!!!??? Two feet from the entrance of the ministerís office and in a secluded enclave located away from the main street is where the AfCOM staff was with a foreign herbalist claiming he was buying African spirit medicines.

What was also strange is the herbalist could not speak our local Krio language neither did he understand English. After his passport was taken from him, the security officers noticed that he had entered Sierra Leone just few days before he was caught in front of the ministerís office entrance, holding various types of African ďjujuĒ and doing some incantation by the ministerís door entrance where she should have passed.

During the herbalistís initial interrogation by the security at the ministerís office, he was unable to communicate because he could not speak Krio, nor could he hear English language. He was a citizen of Niger, and all of us know that Niger is a French speaking country.

The security noticed, through his passport, that he had not been in Sierra Leone for so long. He was just here few days before the incident at the ministerís office. Infact, contrary to the false news article I am reacting to, the herbalist was in his twenties or thirties. He was certainly not an old man. Also, the AFCOM Staff was of similar age as the Jujuman. So the news article that says the minister caused the arrest of an old man is totally wrong. The people involved were two; one AfCOM staff and the other was an imported herbalist from Niger. Both were young men.

The evidence was there. Lots of traditional things like fowl feathers etc. Some I cannot even explain. All were found in the bag of the imported herbalist, bowing close to the right part of the entrance to the ministerís office, barely two feet away from her door.

Meanwhile, the minister advised her security to take both of the men to the police.

At the police, the herbalist was interrogated with the aid of people around the scene who could speak French and they were able to communicate with him. The police asked him about what he was doing in Sierra Leone. The herbalist said he was in Sierra Leone to sell traditional medicines.¬† When he was asked where he lived, the herbalist said he was living in Sackville Street, at Hausa Mosque. When he was further asked about how many places he had sold on that day before coming to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Childrenís Affairs, he said nowhere!

Also, he was asked about the number of people he had sold to on that 3rd May, 2016 before reaching to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children Affairs up that hill. Again, he said no body.

The fact was that he was saying he walked from Sackville Street, to New England Ville, passed the Ministry of Works, passed the Ministry of Labour, and straight to the Ministry of Social Welfare, direct to the ministerís office. Infact, what makes things worst was that he was hunched just two feet away from the door of the entrance of the ministerís office.

The police also asked the herbalist about his relationship with the AfCOM staff, but the herbalist could not answer. At that point, similar question was posed to the AfCOM staff and he claimed that his business with the man was to buy traditional medicine. When the police asked the AfCOM staff about if he was the one who took the imported herbalist to the ministerís entrance, he replied that he was indeed the one who took the imported herbalist there from the street where he claimed the herbalist had been passing. He was also asked what he was doing at the ministry on that morning; he said he was there to work on Internet. He identified the place he was supposed to be working in the ministry, but interestingly, the place is more that 200 meters away from the ministerís office. He left where he was working, to go to the ministerís office with an imported herbalist. Just to administer something bad in an African black magic way. Two of them were bowing 2 feet away from the door of the entrance to the ministerís office.

At the end of the interrogation, both the imported herbalist and the AfCOM staff were unable to provide sufficient evidence to convince the police of their legitimacy of their actions. Therefore, they were detained for further action.

This is the honest truth of what transpired on May 3rd 2016.

Is it because the person involved is a female minister, so people are now raining criticisms on her? Had it been a man, it would have been something else. This is totally an advantage against the minister!!! They brought an imported herbalist to her office and all what some ill-motivated members of the society could say is that she unlawfully aid the detention of an old man, when infact the people that were detained were in their late twenties or early thirties. The herbalist is not an old man. You can crosscheck this at the New England Police Station. You can also ask for the case file of May 3rd 2016. Honestly, all of us could clearly see what transpired between the minister and the imported herbalist who was brought to her office door by the AfCOM staff to do something bad.

END!
