Members of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) party have on Sunday 24th¬†July, 2016 honoured the special traditional funeral ceremony for¬†the late Paramount Chief of Makari- Gbanti Chiefdom in Bombali District; Massa - Yelie Nítham II.
The party members were led by the Honourable Vice President, Dr. Victor Bockarie Foh, together with his Adviser; Dr. Jengo Stevens, the Minister of State North; Hon. Alie Wasco Kamara gathered in the northern chiefdom, a place which is the home chiefdom of His Excellency the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.
The traditional ceremony known as ďKa-puttĒ in the Temne local dialect or ďBuss-cryĒ in Krio was organised to officially pronounce the death of the Paramount Chief; Massa - Yelie Nítham II who close family source said died after long illness.
The pronouncement of the death of the Paramount Chief was the first time in forty four (44) years that the late Chief was addressed by his name; John Sheku Tarawalie, which was his name before ascending the Throne. Traditionally, once a Paramount Chief is addressed by his birth name, its signifies his demise.
The pronouncement was made by the ďParokeĒ, who in Temne tradition means ĎSpeakerĒ, and is traditionally charged with pronouncing the death of the Paramount Chief.
The colorful ceremony exhibited the rich culture and tradition of the Temnes in Bombali District.
Meanwhile, during the ceremony, the Vice President revealed¬†that the late Hon. Paramount Chief, Massa - Yelie Nítham II served in the Sierra Leone Parliament from 1996 - 2002. Hon. Dr. Victor Bockarie Foh who served with him in Parliament, described the late man as a straight forward man, who was also a ďstrong debater.Ē
