Sierra Leone Honourable Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Childrens Affairs; Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden has yesterday, on Thursday 18th August, 2016 vowed to protect one of Sierra Leones cultural societies, the female secret society known as Bondo.

For Hon. Blyden, her only problems with the Bondo is when the practitioners force others to be initiated or perform initiations on girls under the age of 18 years. Blyden is vehemently against forceful and underaged initiations. However, she says she respects the right of any adult woman to do what she wants with her private body parts.

"Whilst I will most vehemently protect our girls from being subjected to female circumcision, I will never stop a woman above age 18 years from exercising her right to be circumcised or be initiated into the Bondo Society!"

Hon. Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden made this pronouncement whilst talking to a galaxy of women involved in the cultural practice who thronged the countrys northern provincial headquarters town of Makeni City, to conduct findings on the circumstances surrounding the death of a 19 years old Fatmata Mustapha Turay.

Hon Minister Blyden poses with her former medicine lecturer, the renowned Pathologist Dr. Owizz Koroma

The late Fatmata died shortly after undergoing initiation into Bondo at Mabolleh Village, Bombali Sebora Chiefdom, Bombali District. It was initially widely rumored that she bled to death during circumcision. However, other versions allege that she complained of severe intractable abdominal pains which did not cease for three days until she died.

Awareness Times is most reliably informed that the cause of death of the 19 years old lady had nothing to do with Bondo or female genital mutilation. Our very credible sources indicate that the autopsy proves the late 19 years old had other very serious conditions in her chest and abdomen that caused her death. Our sources say she did not bleed to death from her private parts.

Late Fatmata M. Turay was beautiful and sexy

Meanwhile, continuing her address, Hon. Dr. Blyden confirmed that the Bondo society is not a criminal organization but rather part of our traditions and cultures that has good values which need to be protected and respected even as we work against the bad aspects.

Meanwhile, we are informed that Hon. Dr. Blyden, who herself is a trained and qualified medical doctor, put on full medical gears and joined Sierra Leones only trained and qualified Pathologist Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma at the Makeni Government Hospital as Dr. Owizz performed the autopsy on the deceased.

Following the autopsy, the female Cabinet minister addressed the gathering and urged Sowies and the general public to respect the autopsy results, which outcome, she said could only be revealed by the family of the late Fatmata Mustapha Turay or the Police Investigation. She also extended sympathies to the mother and other family members of the deceased.

She described the late Fatmata as "a beautiful, gorgeous and truly sexy young lady" and prayed that all her sins on earth be forgiven by the Almighty so she might have everlasting peace.

It could be recalled that the National Sowei Council of the Bondo Society, led by their Vice President, Madam Elsie Kongolama and their Secretary General, Madam Kharday Zorokong on Tuesday August 16th 2016, led a galaxy of their members from all over Sierra Leone into Bombali in order to assist the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children's Affairs conduct a fact finding enquiry into the circumstances around the death of Fatmata.

It can also be recalled that the National Sowei Council recently announced to the Honourable Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children's Affairs, that she should rest assured that Soweis will now be self-policing and at the fore of reporting any forceful initiation or under-aged initiation.

It is against this backdrop and to illustrate their sincerity that the Soweis thronged into Makeni to investigate the death of 19 years old Fatmata Mustapha Turay, a schoolgirl who was just promoted to SSS-4 in Makeni.

In complimenting their efforts, the Honourable Minister also joined them up in Makeni and further personally put on her medical gear in order to witness the autopsy and get first hand knowledge of the real cause of the death of the 19 yrs old lady. Photos of the late Fatmata seen by this newspaper illustrate that the young lady was fully matured, very beautiful and very sexy in her appearance. She was certainly passed the age of consent in more ways than one.
