Sierra Leone News : MOHS Launches2015 Annual Health Sector Performance Report

The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Brima Kargbo has officially launchedat the 2016 Mid-Year Review meeting held on Tuesday August 30 2016,the 2015 Ministry of Health and Sanitation Annual Health Sector Performance Report, at the Shangri La Hotel in Freetown.

 

Addressing the meeting which attracted District Medical Officers, Medical Superintendents from the various districts, District Councils, other health professionals and health development partners, Dr. Kargbo recounted the progress made in 2015, despite the numerous challenges and devastation caused by the Ebola outbreak, pointing out that the mid-and end-of-year review conducted in 2015 outcomes contributed to the production of the first annual Health Sector Performance Report.

 

He congratulated the leadership of the Directorate of Policy, Planning and Information and team for driving the process, and assured his staff and partners that the process will continue to ensure they serve as invaluable reference materials for all within and outside Sierra Leone.

 

He underscored the process made in 2015 and in the first-half of 2016 as a team, and reminded health officials about the importance to examine the Ministrys achievements, the challenges and agree on modalities of making the remaining half of 2016 better. In making their contribution during the period under review, Dr. Kargbo noted that as stakeholders in the process, they have the opportunity to exhibit the successes in the reporting period, the damages caused by the Ebola virus diseases to the country and the health sector.

 

He said he is optimistic that more effort would be made to ensure the 10-24 months Recovery Plan and the wider sector plans succeed.

 

The Chief Medical Officer on behalf of the Minister commended the facility staff and all for the hard work, hoping that the trendtowards building a resilient health system country- wide will continue.

 

Making her remarks, Acting Coordinator Health Systems Strengthening WHO Country Office, SowmyaRapandale described the event as an opportunity to take stock, and to work on the reviewed process, and stressed her organizations continued support towards the development of the health sector in the country.

 

The Health Advisor, USAID, El-Din Hassan noted the enormous services rendered, pointing out that the event calls for the Ministry and stakeholders to reflect on their past activities, policy and guidelines to be credibly translated into action.

 

Other highlights include remarks from the UNICEF Child Survival and Development Officer, Dr. Alison Jenkins, and presentations on the 2015 Performance Health Sector Report, District Health System including hospitals 2016 performance, Performance of the 2016 Directorate of Food and Nutrition, Performance of the 2016 Directorate of Drugs and Medical Supplies and  the National Pharmaceutical Procurement Unit.
