Wife of Former President, Late Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Tejan, Mrs. Isata Jabbie Kabbah, has reacted to social media claimed that she has abandoned her party, the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) and has declared her support for the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) Party by saying: “I am a staunch supporter of the SLPP, but I still approve of some APC members too.”
Mrs. Kabbah made such reaction in a telephone interview with Awareness Times Newspaper on Tuesday 2nd May 2017. The former Women’s Leader of SLPP, Madam Kabbah maintained that there has being a long-time relationship between herself and the current Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara and his wife for over twenty years and nothing can change that. She also said, She equally does admire the APC Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Hon. Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, who she said she would approve of her too.
She however cautioned that her membership in the SLPP remained as far as the party continue to uphold its constitution. “If they failed to do the right thing, then I will make my position clear to the public but at the time, I am still a loyal and fully paid member of the party” Madam Kabbah maintained.
Mrs. IJ Kabbah as she is fondly called, further apologized over her joke in a party, “Apparently, my joke fell flat and some of my actions may have even been in poor taste to some of my family and friends. I take full responsibility for my actions. It is regrettable and I can only crave your understanding and forgiveness.” She went on that her statements are of no consequence especially given the circumstances they were made. The former SLPP Women’s Leader stressed that she is still a staunch and unabashed member of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) and nothing has changed that.
It could be recalled that Mrs. Isata Jabbie Kabbah on a party expressed her admiration over the candidacy of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (JFK) for the flagbearership position of the APC and made public that if APC awards its symbol to JFK for the 2018 presidency, she will campaign for him and even wear red (red is the party colour of the APC). Her statement went viral on social media, some bashing her over such statement while others appreciate her boldness on that night. However, she said, she admires some APC members because of their lasting relationship, and will approve on their candidacy should they ever contest for the top job in the country despite the political differences.
