The All Peoples Congress (APC) Party led government of His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has been lavishly praised by Ghana’s President, His Excellency Dr. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for its good leadership of the people of Sierra Leone.

In his statement on Wednesday 24th May 2017, during a joint press conference at State House, the Ghanaian President said he was delighted to be in the historic city of Freetown. He therefore thanked the Sierra Leone Government for the warm reception.

His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma of the Republic of Sierra Leone

President Addo disclosed that there is a great similarity between himself and President Koroma. He maintained that as opposition leaders, they both lost in their first attempted elections but the distinct difference between them is President Koroma was successful in his second contest, unlike him (President Addo) who attempted and lost twice and only succeeded in his third attempt.

The Ghanaian President applauded President Koroma for his effort in restoring Law and Order in Sierra Leone. He said: “His Excellency, I have to applaud you for your effort in restoring Law and Order in Sierra Leone. As a first instance, the peace and reconciliation since you took-up office as you promise when you were in opposition in 2003.”

Ghana’s President further commended President Koroma’s resilient effort during the Ebola outbreak that claimed the lives of thousands of Sierra Leoneans, and how he and the people of this nation defeated it.

“Mr. President, I commend you also in your leadership role ever since you assumed office in promoting the development of the nation’s economy. You inherited a challenging economic situation but the growth of your economy was evident in the GDP. In 2013, the GDP records all high in your economy” President Addo frankly stated.

His Excellency Dr. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo also stated that his visit to Sierra Leone was part of his regional tour to present himself to his colleagues Heads of State as the new President of Ghana.

In his statement, HE President Koroma heartily welcomed his Ghanaian counterpart in his maiden visit to Sierra Leone as president. President Koroma said, there has being a long-standing relationship between Ghana and Sierra Leone that predated Colonial, Post-Colonial and current.

President Koroma furthered that the visit of the Ghanaian President is to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries. He disclosed that a bilateral cooperation had been signed in 2016 between the two countries, and that await parliamentary approval in the two countries.

President Ernest Bai Koroma expressed the need to strengthen the relationship between the two countries at ECOWAS, AU and UN levels. He described the visit of his colleague president from Ghana as a historic day for Ghana and Sierra Leone.

President Koroma narrated that when Sierra Leone was faced with the rebel war, Ghana was part of the ECOMOG contingent that help in the restoration of democracy. Also during the Ebola epidemic, he said, Ghana played pivotal role to combat it.
