On Monday June 19th 2017 one Sallu Samora was arraigned before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of the Freetown Magistrate Court No.3 at the Siaka Stevens Street Law Court Building for the alleged case of assault on Police Constable 16826 Tarawalli M.F.
According to the Police charge sheet, this incident took place on Thursday 15th June, 2017, at Back Street, Jomo Keyatta Road, New England in the Western Area of Freetown where the accused person allegedly assaulted Police Constable 16826 Tarawalli M.F thereby causing him grievous bodily harm.
Defending Counsel DJ Laffalie in his bail application to the court pleaded on behalf of his client that it was an allegation that the police have set against his client. He went on to say that the accused is a Sierra Leonean and he has permanent address where he stays. He added the accused has a motor cycle with a license,so if granted bail, he will appear in court whenever the matter comes up in the court and he will not jump bail.
The prosecuting council oppose to the bail application that if the accused granted bail, the accused person wouldhave interfered with the witnesses in the matter.
‘’ I have listened to the application for bail and the objection thereto. The accused is a Sierra Leonean and he has a permanent address so I therefore grant him bail in the sum of ten million Leones with one surety and the surety must produce a National Identification Card or Voter’s Identity Card and bail to be approved by the Deputy Master and Register of the High Court of Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to Thursday 22nd June 2017.
