The Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) have resolved in a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held yesterday 21st June, 2017, at their party edifice in Freetown that the disputed Lower Level Executive Elections in the 39 constituencies would commence on 28th June and end on 22nd July 2017.
In a statement issued on social media by the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, the National Executive Council (NEC) will also meet on 29th July, 2017, to ratify the delegates list and publish it for 21 days in compliance with the Supreme Court ruling. The statement continued that the date for the National Delegates Conference will be set in the said NEC meeting of 29th July 2017.
The statement further that Lahai Lawrence Leema, the former Acting Publicity Secretary of the SLPP has been elevated as the substantive holder of the position (National Publicity Secretary SLPP).
The statement signed by Lahai Lawrence Leema said “SLPP also wishes to apologies to its membership and the public for not nominating a candidate in the bye election in Ward 139 in Kambia District, due to circumstances beyond the control of the party.”
However, the SLPP party further distanced itself from rumors moving around in Ward 139 purporting that the independent candidate in the Kambia bye election is an SLPP representative. The SLPP boastfully asserts that “the SLPP wants to assure its membership and the public that the party will put up solid candidates for both the ward and constituency elections in the 2018 presidential and parliamentary elections.”
The re-run of the 39 constituencies will follow the chronological order: 28th June 2017, Section/Zonal election, 4th July 2017, chiefdom elections, 10th July 2017, Constituency elections, 16th July 2017, District elections,22nd July 2017, Regional elections, and 29th July 2017, NEC Meeting.
