Chargé d’Affaires of the Sierra Leone Embassy in the People’s Republic of China has told Sierra Leoneans currently on training sessions in Beijing to share whatever knowledge they are acquiring now “by positively impacting on the society upon return.”

Madam Kumba Alice Momoh spoke on Tuesday, 20th June, 2017, whilst hosting dozens of Sierra Leoneans from different ministries, departments and educational institutions like ministries of social welfare, foreign affairs, Open Government Initiative, Fourah Bay College, Njala University, and Milton Margai College of Education, Science and Technology.

According to Madam Momoh, there often has been the challenge of people implementing whatever knowledge got out of such training opportunities. “This should be your drive on your return, to put into practical terms what you have learned and then serve as drivers of our development path,” she said.

As Think Tank and policy makers in their various departments, ministries or agencies, Madam Momoh said, the best they could give back to society is having concrete action plans for national growth and “implementation must be critical to ensure targets are met and good reviews and evaluations for sustainability are achieved.”The Chinese, she said, are hard working people with determination to be making improvements on constant basis. These, plus other factors of development are things that our country could learn from.

In his welcome statement, the Head of Chancery, Unisa Sahid Kamara said, it has become an Embassy tradition to be hosting visiting teams from the country which he said “has always been a pleasure on the part of the Embassy.”

As an Embassy, he said all efforts would be made to ensure to protect the interest and welfare of Sierra Leoneans in China “within the limit of the laws.”

Making a statement, a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed S. Kargbo thanked the Embassy for hosting them. Their arrival in China, he said, was for a seminar for young and middle age diplomats from English speaking countries.  ”We are here to learn the Chinese domestic policies and how they relate to their foreign policies.”

Another speaker was drawn from the Think Tank, an institution that is being developed to serve as reference point on policy and research driven issues presently in Beijing.
