The facilitator for the training who also doubles as the Communication and PR Manager of the National Commission for Democracy, Rev. Gibrilla Kargbo, elucidated on the need to raise an informed, effective and responsible citizenry with adequate civic knowledge, skills and disposition with a view to making the country’s democracy work.

In his presentation, Rev. Kargbo endeavored to educate his audience on the need to be good citizens noting that a good citizen must be made to be aware of his rights and responsibilities even as he encouraged the young people of the village to imbibe the attribute of a good citizen.

Dilating on the concept of a good citizen, the facilitator highlighted some of the rights and responsibilities a good citizen must uphold noting that citizens must have personal, political and economic rights coupled with personal and civic responsibilities on the other hand.

Presenting on conflict resolution, the Communication and PR Manager described conflict as any situation affecting the peace, stability, security and development of the individual and/or the society whilst underscoring the need for a firm commitment on the part of every citizen of a nation to keep the peace, ensure stability, uphold security and foster development.

Rev. Kargbo outlined some of the basic principles of conflict resolution with a view to inculcating in his audience the right skills and attitude to resolve conflict but encouraged them to endeavor to apply the golden role “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you” to avoid conflict.

A group presentation exercise climaxed the occasion where two presenters each representing one of the topics “what are the characteristics of a good citizen and what measures can be put in place to deal with clique and gang violence?”

In his closing statement, Rev. Gibrilla Kargbo noted that “it is a civic responsibility to keep the peace and maintain law and order for without law and order, our democracy cannot work. By collective responsibility we can make our democracy work. However, it starts with a personal commitment to the realization of a peaceful society. We can make it happen!”
