Justice Alieu John Bosco yesterday 12th July 2017, at the High Court of Freetown presided over the matter that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arraigned in court alleging that the Executive Director of ‘The Needy Today’ Civil Society based in Makeni, Mr. Dauda Amid Koroma and two others misappropriated donors funds meant for the protection of vulnerable groups during the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone.
The Executive Director, Mr. Dauda Amid Koroma of ‘The Needy Today’ Civil Society based in Makeni, the Programs Manager Mr. Jesse Jimmi and the Finance Manager Mr. Brima Kapoi were arraigned in court on twenty four count charges of misappropriation of donor funds and bribery.
The ACC prosecutor, Sariffon Harleston, before Justice Alieu John Bosco alleged that the money meant for the protection of vulnerable groups during the Ebola outbreak was mismanaged by the “The Needy Today” Civil Society organization.
Thereafter, Umaru Sesay, the officer who investigated the matter tendered in court various documents including bank statements and cheques purportedly used by the civil society “The Needy Today” (TNT) to collect the money from Rokel Commercial Bank Branch in Makeni.
He disclosed that the documents were given to him by the Internal Auditor of GOAL Sierra Leone along with complaints that TNT has collected money for an Ebola project that was never executed.
He added that after receiving the complaint ,he was looking to see if ‘The Needy Today’ complied with the Memorandum of Understanding they made with GOAL Sierra Leone on the 1st July 2015, for a project titled “Protection of the vulnerable groups during the Ebola outbreak”.
He went on to say that ‘The Needy Today’ was supposed to implement the project on behalf of GOAL, whilst GOAL was supposed to fund the project.
He added that he project was supposed to be implemented in 13th towns of Bombali District with focus on Nutrition, Child Support, Psycho Social Support, Gender Based Violence, and Disability and to address problem of Older Persons.
He disclosed that sixty seven percent of the total project funds were deposited to the Rokel Commercial Bank account of ‘The Needy Today’ for the project that should span from the 4th July to 30th November 2015.
Justice Alieu John Bosco, after the defense lawyer, C. F Edwards renewed his application for bail, granted bail to the accused person in the sum of one hundred and fifty million Leones and two sure in like sum each and he adjourned the matter to next week Wednesday July 19th 2017 for continuation.
