The Honourable Minister of Social Welfare, Gender & Children’s Affairs Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, has endorsed a request by the leadership of the Children’s Forum Network (CFN) to have their Annual General Meeting hold in the newly demarcated Karene District in North Western Province. The proposed venue will be the Siaka Stevens Hall which is named after one of the past Presidents of Sierra Leone. Outside view of the hall in Kamakwie, Karene District is shown in one of the photos accompanying this update.

Another is a photo of the CFN Secretary General Master Hussein Muckson Sesay posing joyously inside the Siaka Stevens Hall.

After a two days assessment visit and engagement with Karene children and stakeholders of that remote part of Sierra Leone, the President of CFN Miss Paulina Bangura and Master Hussein Muckson Sesay together with their ministry chaperones decided that Kamakwie, though remote, is the perfect venue; all in furtherance of ongoing national policy of ensuring social services and sensitisation on social welfare policies/laws are accessible to all rural areas countrywide.

Accompanying photos also show CFN President Paulina Bangura addressing pupils of the Wesleyan School in Kamakwie. A new CFN branch for Karene is part of the ongoing plan to boost the numerical strength of CFN in Sierra Leone.

Another photo shows the two eloquent children directly engaging the distinguished Paramount Chief Kandeh Luseni III of Sella Limba Chiefdom in Karene.

The Government of His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma believes that decisions taken on behalf of children should have all concerned do whatever is feasible to ensure they reflect the wishes of the children involved. Hence Hon. Blyden’s leadership of the Ministry has been carried out along those lines.

Her leadership is one which has seen her traveling with a child as part of an official Government delegation to United Nations meetings on the Rights of Children - a first in History.

Government of Sierra Leone ensuring children are fully involved in even these initial stages of assessing various venue options for a successful 2017 AGM, is of no surprise to many. This is what the government stands for - empowering children to the maximum and making them be a part of national decision making processes.
